I concur West, leaning that way, talking to a local shop when I pull the spindles off in 2 weeks. Have the annual Christmas parade coming up and don't want to jeopardize that if something was to go awry with the king pins or spindles. Can't see how, but Murphy has been known to reside in the corner of my garage and has come out to assist in projects on occasions

Thanks Owen, I feel the same way about tools, have lost many over the years to people that have "borrowed". Unfortunately for me, I forget sometimes who borrowed them!
I'll let you know, leaning towards a local shop at the moment, need to talk to them about doing the engine this winter anyway
Question on the engine, pretty certain rod bearings are in dire need. If the crank gets turned, are oversize bearings readily available and if so from whom?

Thanks for the info Howard. Finally got the new king pin kit and it mics.865. Of course my procrastination resulted in that ebay reamer getting sold. Scrounging the web a bit now, not certain I want to pay $80 for a tool I will use twice

Thanks

Haven't ordered the bushings and pins yet as that is a post Xmas 12/3 parade job. Once I receive them, I will know what to do

I have found adjustable reamers as well as reamers of the proper size but none with a pilot so if I was to do this in my garage, I would insure concentricity of the two holes. Also a bit concerned about the manual stating it should be burnished, not reamed. Still calling local shops, thanks

John

EXCELLENT write up West, thank you. Couple of valuable points I learned, the drift pins are directional and the bolts / washers for the shocks are "matched"

Not having much luck finding a shop or for that matter a reamer in the South San Jose area. Holding off pulling them off until after the Christmas parade on the 3rd.

Thanks again West !

Any words of wisdom from anyone that has tackled removal, reaming and installation of king pins and bushings on a 1939 110?
I found the king pins and bushings, getting ready to order. Was hoping to fins ones that wouldn't need reaming, guess that does not exist. What size reamer and who carry it?

Thanks
John

Thanks Don

The car will be at the Morgan Hill Xmas parade on December 2nd, or if you are in MH are a drop me a line.

Was under the car last night, found the adjustment. Unfortunately, not much left to adjust. Took it to the max and pedal free play is 3" now instead of 4.5". SO, will drop the transmission I guess to replace the clutch plate and pressure plate

There appears to be a second adjustment , a rod parallel to the adjustment rod. Didn't have the car up on the lift, so couldn't see the adjustment end. Fig 51 n the shop manual illustrates this, but they show the adjustment on the inboard nut, which I think is in error. Anyone know?

Wow and DUH on my part. Just checked, about 4.5" of pedal free play, bit more than the spec'd 1.5" - 2".

Kind of makes sense as well, only had occasional problem in past. After being in a slow moving parade for 2+ hours, might have taken wear and tear on the old clutch !! I'll adjust that first thing in the AM and keep all posted. Thanks !!

Thanks, that's on my list to check when under the car, but given it doesn't slip, not sure that is the issue. I would think that a car of this age, with as far as we know, all original driveline components, clutch would be getting "looser" not gripping, no ?
