Attaching an after market coil
Home away from home
Home away from home

R Howe
Hello. all, again. On my '37 120, it came with an after-market ignition coil, where the ignition cable is attached to one pole on the outside instead of being attached through the back. When I spin the engine, I do not seem to be getting spark from the coil into the distributor. The poles on the coil are marked "+" and "-" and I have the ignition cable currently attached to the "-" side. Before I swap these lines into the coil, I would like to see if I can get confirmation that my connecting the ignition cable to the "-" side was correct. With the ignition turned on, I get voltage shown when I use my volt meter between the negative pole and the engine block. Any confirmation that I do have it connected correctly would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Thank you both for your quick responses. I shall see about getting the marks on the flywheel more visible so that the timing may be set correctly. Again, thanks.

282 Timing Mark

I am trying to tune my rebuilt engine and get it fired up after all of the time working on my 37 120. I can get the engine turned over to the point where number one cylinder is in the compression stage to fire or the compression stage for the exhaust. There is a bit of rust on the flywheel, so I am having trouble determining where in the cycle the engine sits. My problem here is that my research into this has not produced any information on exactly what this mark on the flywheel looks like. I would appreciate any further information that anyone might be able to give on this. Thanks.

Re: 1937 120 Oil Filtration System

Thanks to both of you. I do appreciate the information. I believe that the filter "basket" is the original due to the description that was given to me yesterday by someone who does rebuild these engines. I will also check at O'Reilly's and take a look at the WIX51006 to see if it might fit. Again, thanks for the information. I learn something new each time.

1937 120 Oil Filtration System

I am preparing to fire up my rebuilt engine and wanted to check to make sure everything internal was looking like it should. The material in the internal oil filter basket is no longer there. Does anyone know where I can obtain the material that goes in this oil filter basket? I bought the car after the engine had been rebuilt and since I could not get to the engine for quite a while, I added oil to the case in a sufficient quantity to keep the piston bearings lubricated. That raised the level to the oil filter basket. My thinking is that with the amount of oil in the pan, this material finally dissolved.
My research on Google and other sites have returned no information on this type of filtration system.
Thanks.

1937 120 Wiring Harness Installation

I am finally getting around to installing the new wiring harness on my 1937 120 and would like to know if anyone out there can lead me to any documentation that specifies the routing of the harness through the body and the attach points of same. I do know that the tail light / fuel gauge portion runs down the passenger side within the chassis, but the portion that inhabits the passenger compartment itself is a mystery to me. I cannot seem to locate any information on any web site that can show me the routing and / or attachment of the harness.
Thanks for any information you might be able to give.

The Production Packard Restoration Source List

I am a little late in getting into this, but I did purchase "The Production Packard" restoration manual. As the previous questioners asked, does anyone know if the source list mentioned in the manual has been updated and is available? Someone mentioned a Jim Hill who might know, but being new to this, I am not familiar with him. Would someone have his contact information if he is still active?

Thanks for the information on the 35 - 37 book. I'll go and see if I can locate one today. I really appreciate the information and also, I really like your quotes. Especially the one concerning the past. Thanks again.
