1954 Convertible Detail Questions

1. If a '54 Convertible was ordered or came with wire wheels would the spare have been a steel wheel or a fifth wire wheel?

2. With a the hood open, about 2/3rds of the way down the edge that faces the fender when closed is a hole on both sides. Is there supposed to be a rubber bumper in the hole? If so, a source for the proper part?

The car will be judged but I will take the NAPA numbers and get their dimensions. Thanks.

That is what I suspected. What is a good source to find the proper sizes? Hershey is right around the corner. Thanks.

Would the belts on a '54 be V belts or cogged belts?

I had the rear fender skirts off this weekend and noticed that they have similar "staple holes" along the top edge of the skirt where it meets the body. There must have been some type of gasket or welting to insulate the skirt from the body? Does anyone have a picture of the original material?

How is the cigarette lighter receptacle removed from the dash for replacement? There is limited room to grab it from behind the dash and I don't want to scratch paint on the front of the dash. I do not find this covered in the Service Manual. Thanks.

The windshield replacement guys came out this morning. The windshield can be and was tipped out at the top and then lifted to clear the wiper pivots which only had been loosened by removing the bolts and brackets on the backside of the cowl. There was no need to monkey with the cables and tensioners.

I am having the windshield removed/resealed later this week. In preparation I removed the windshield wipers and loosened the pivot assemblies per the manual by removing the bolt and winged bracket under the cowl. This loosened the pivots but not by much. I am not sure this has created enough clearance to remove and reinstall the windshield. What am I missing?
