Hello DP,

i hope you are well? And the passion for cars from Packard is still there?

Please allow me to return to our correspondence of fall 2020.

We have equipped the carburetor with these parts.
11B-126 nozzle passage plug
11B-159 bypass bleeder screw plug
75-538 metering rod

The idle jet has not been changed. it was standard. However, the engine is still much too lean at idle. It only runs at about 0.1% CO. The enrichment for power and rpm works. Do you have any idea which idle jet we should change to? Or could you even sell me something? I would be happy to hear from you!
Best regards Josef

Dear Packard friends. i have a question regarding the gasket between the intake flange and the exhaust flange. I have marked the location in red in the drawing. This gasket was sent to me with a set of other gaskets. The way it looks today on my car, without removing the manifold, I don't have a gasket there at all. I can´t hear any leaks. Also i can't find this gasket in the packard spare parts book. My question: was this gasket not originally available? What problems will there if there is a leakage between the two vertical channels? Everything is tight on the outside. That's why I don't want to disassemble anything on suspicion. Thank you very much in advance , best regards Josef

Mark thank you very much. I will send my request to Max Merrit. If you still have no issues with them, i guess they are OK. Best regards Josef

yes you can see the washer because the spring is broken. normaly the flat washer is hidden in the cast iron. all 16 springs are new. but some are broken now. because of that not all 8 cylinder are working. we start now disassembling. could anybody recomend a source for hydraulic lifters in good quality? i want to change them preventive.

Hello Ross, thank you for your reply. I like this video very much. I understand now much better.

Please let me ask you another question. My new fresh valve springs last only less than 100 mls. (photo) some broke. I will now use the old ones. Made by Packard. I guess they are much better quality.

But somthing makes me thinking in another direction too. In the manual i have read about some washers in cup shape ( attachement) used in series 22. They should work better with the springs. The manual propose to modify the series 21 engine with the 22 washers. Could the old washer shape, I am still using, be the reason for the early fail of my today springs?
please let me know what you are thinking about. Thank you very much, best regards Josef

Dear all. Asking for my 356 SU8 engine series 21.
I am thinking about replacing the hydraulic lifters as a preventive measure. Can anyone recommend replacing the lifters without replacing the tappets? Or is only the pairwise exchange advisable? And what reliable source of supply for the lifters there? It looks like there are a lot of sources for series 22 lifters. I emphasize reliable source, because in recent months have received a lot of bad replicated Packard parts. Many thanks in advance for the answer, many greetings
best regards Josef

Dear Mike,
sorry for my late reply.
Yes would be nice to find a source in Turkey.
Much faster cheaper for Europeans.

But you can not only use Mahle.
The filter from Mann+Hummel number PF 915 N fits fine too.
best regards Josef

For my 356 Super Clipper i use the same Mahle OX79D. Yes it fits very tight on the tube but it works. The first filter i have bought, was a Hastigs LF 130. i have bought it in USA. But the Mahle is much more easy to buy in Europe.
