Thank you Owen, Howard, Mr. Potato Head and John! I'm on it. I like the idea of cutting a hole. Stay tuned. TC

1954 Packard Pacific gas tank sending unit.

This topic has been covered many times over the years. My apologies for repeating. After 69 years my fuel gauge needle is all over the place and currently shows empty and is actually full. The needle moves when I swerve the car though. I surmise it is the sending unit. I have a new vendor unit and a Spectra Premium FG97A. Trivial question. I have not been under the car in a while. Is the unit accessable without dropping the tank? Any help would be greatly appreciated. A diagram as well.

Regards
TC

Hah, I should not have asked about the wire. It is undoubtedly the ground wire.....tiny print on box......I installed the new 6V LED flasher and it works perfect. The ground wire is attached to the fire wall. Sans the H4 headlights, I have not put the LED bulbs in the front driving lights yet nor the rear yet. I do have a LED Brakelighter third brake light that works much better now though. Stay tuned.

Hi PDon,

I finally got a hold of 2x new solid state 6 volt LED flashers. 1x is from LEDlights.com and the 1x is from Dynamo regulator in England. Both do look pretty much the same. Both have what appears to be a ground wire. The old flasher is a Tung Sol P229 D. It was mounted behind the dash next to the steering column of my 54. It does not have any ground wire. For the new solid state flasher is it absolutely necessary to use the ground wire if the old Tung Sol was 3 prong like the new flasher?

I came across this when I was looking for the flasher you posted in the picture. Will it suffice?

Looks like either the same one or a very similar one. I bought mine years ago from the UK before they were available here so likely from the same source. However, if the diagram was for the same unit, I see nothing to make it click like mine does.

My apologies Jerome as I only just saw your post. A little less than a year later.....did you solve the oil drip problem? I have not. I did get some new bolts and synthetic washers in addition to the gasket/thread seal. I have 3x symetrical small drips now. I plan to tackle at next oil change.
