Well, I had the old girl out for a spin . I looked at the T turn and it was fully closed. Turned it out a turn and a half and seemed to run better. Checked compression and it was 75 across.
Went to a little show and shine in the park down the hill from me and was a hit. The mayor got to have his photo taken in the drivers seat.Should be in the local paper shortly. The quest continues.

Mod 826 CD840 and CL896 Generators

Greetings from the Wetcoast.
I have a '31 826 with generator/charging problems. I have a CD840 and a CL896 generator.I also have a CL896 with a CD840 end housing with a CL896 brush holder assembly installed. It charged heavy for half an hour then quit. The CD 840 was an old rebuild from a shop that has gone away. Didn't work period. CL896 worked as it should then after about 8 running hours the brush housing dismantled itself. On inspection, there were some old cracks and a couple of new cracks.I replaced the housing with the correct one and gave it to a rebuilder to test. He says the 840 will motor but no output. The question...Are there any wiring drawings of the generators and their regulators? The 840 has an Echlin reg, but not charging. The 896 that worked but broke also has an Echlin reg. The original 896 had a Packard 20220 reg which quit charging, then was dropped and brush end broken. Do you feel my pain? I bought this car after the owner of 40 years passed away.I am trying to make sense of it all.Sorry if I ramble but...

The T turn was replaced (I think) as there is another one complete with gland nut with new packing in it in glove box. Is there a good parts drawing somewhere. I am trying to get my head around its internals. What I would like is the banjo fitting between the fuel line and carb. It is slightly squashed and the SAE taper is beat up. Not leaking now but it was. I am new to this game and have no contacts for parts or service. How does the choke work?

My carb is original. How does the choke work? Could problem be there? Car starts easily, couple of rr,rrs and its away hot or cold. Looks like T turn has been changed as there is one in glove box. Previous owner has passed so I can't ask.
Car is original and unmolested. I am 3rd caregiver. Is licensed and I want to drive it without gassing everyone.

Carb seems overly rich at low speed/idle.Previous owner (deceased) must have worked on it as there was a mixture screw assy in glove box. Does this use an enricher like on SU carbs? Plugs and tail pipe sooty and smells rich. Bought new plugs today just because. Also would like a replacement inlet fitting. Looks like someone tried to hold it with pliers and carb side is no longer round . Was leaking but found a square ring that seals it.

Who is a reliable repair/ rebuilder that can test "rebuilt" 31 generators and regs. Have 2 that don't work after rebuild and one in a box. I am in Vancouver BC and so far nobody wants to look at them. Is there an Owen person onboard? One charged for 20 mins, then quit. Other flat didn't work. A change up to a later unit could be considered.
