Most wheels from any manufacturer were painted black front,back and inside and then painted body color on the face side.You definitly want to paint the back sides and insides with something so they dont rust.If the rust gets bad enough it will cause the bead to lose its seal and deflate the tires

I let it sit out in the sun to let the primer shrink and do its thing.

This is the first stage which is an epoxy primer.It is a gray green color

Well over the last few months I finished fabricating and welding in patch panels for the common rust areas around the wheel wells.I also stripped the car and got the body work done this past weekend and primed it last night.Currently Im just concentrating on the main body and will work on the doors,trunk etc. later.

I just went through this myself .On my 54 I saw alot of light gray during the disassemble and clean up.I ordered the 54 packard gray from Hirsch but it was way to dark.I called and spoke to someone who said they actually have two different grays for packards.It has been a matter of opinion I guess from Packard experts as to how dark it was supposed to be.He sent me a lighter gray that was still too dark but alot closer than the first can he sent.I would call it a battleship gray.
