Re: Paint cracking question

in the 80s i painted 1 car with lacquer and a few years later i painted 1 with acrylic enamel. I still have both of those cars The enamel job is holding up the best but none seem to last forever at least for me. But forever isn't as long as it use to be. I won a free ceramic coating at a car show but never used it. Its suppose to be the latest and greatest thing and better than wax. Anyone know anything about that?

I was working on one of my cars that has been asleep since last fall. The paint job was excellent but the past couple years I notice cracks showing up. Is there anything i can do to slow or stop the cracking process. its been painted about 20 years. I tried covering it and not covering it over the winter. Nothing seems to help will a special wax help? its very frustrating to see this. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Is there any way to tell if a head has been surfaced to many times? Such as some type of chart to give a minimum thickness.

I bought an intake and exhaust manifold the 3 bolts that hold it together are missing. Are they special bolts or will grade 5 bolts work.

my 29 626 pitman arm has some play in it. What is the best way to remove the play? I tried looking at the service notes but there dose not seem to be any for that year.

The gas tank was cleaned and coated by a professional place but I cant help but think it will have to come back out I should not be getting rust in the filter since it was done. it was also 400.00 to get done. Temp gauge moves but I had suspicions it was not correct thats why I had a temp gun with me timing was checked and rechecked many times. distributor mechanical advance also was checked many times. All rad and heater hoses are new nothings bypassed. New water pump. new fan belt thats tight. And tons of other things where done over the last year. All wheel cylinders were replaced and car roles easy. All brake hoses were replaced also I dont think there is a problem with the water distribution tube because when I would check engine temp with the heat gun it was not more than 5 degrees front to back on the head.

I spent about 8 hours working on the car Checked the antifreeze level with a mirror and a flash light it was just above the core. checked the spark plug wires could not find anything wrong. Checked the fuel pump pressure the old pump read 2.5 psi rebuilt pump read 2.75 psi. Changed fuel filter before the pump checked pressure again it was the same. checked the pressure with a different gauge it was the same. So the only thing I could think of is that the cam lobe is wore.I installed a new electric pump. Got it running checked the timing it was perfect. I installed the inner fender and went for a ride. After about 5 miles my daughter said she thought she smelled something. I checked the fuel lines they looked good. I saw a few drips of anti freeze hanging off the front frame under the radiator. I had my temp gun with me so I checked temp. it was 200F. I started to head home about 2 miles later the car overheated, and I had to be towed home. The only thing I can think of is that the radiator is clogged and at higher speeds antifreeze will not flow through it fast enough. I checked the thermostat that seems ok.
