The Packard overheated on the way back from the fundraiser yesterday and it was do to my error of overfilling the radiator in the morning before driving out to the fundraiser.

With the overfilling of the radiator it caused it boiled off the excess antifreeze/water and it sprayed onto the fan belt which caused it to slip.

I was able to find a driveway to pullover in. Sat there a a few minutes with dogs barking at me when the owner came out. I apologized for causing his dogs to bark.

He looks at Packard and says looks like you have overheated. I nodded yes... we chatted for awhile as it cooled down. I asked if he had a gallon of water he walked back into his house came back out with a gallon of water, paper towels and a nectarine. He explained the nectarine was for me to calm my nerves done which indeed it did.

We had a nice conversation and he mention he is veteran. I thank him (Mark) for his service and helping me.

After letting the Packard cool for at least a 1/2 or so. Topped of the radiator but not as full a my error earlier in the day I made the 30 mile ride back home with no other issues.

After getting home I let it cool down before giving it a bath to wash off the antifreeze.

Lesson learned do not overfill the radiator. The antifreeze and water need room to expand.

@DavidM,

Choke is not hooked up since it doesn't have the original carb.

When I rev up the engine I could see the oil leak from the base of the valve. I have repacked it since that is where it leaked once before. For the lines being plug could be but I had rebuilt the engine a few years back. I am hoping replacing the copper with cork will stop this leak.

I don't envy you with the RHD. I can't imagine getting to it with the column in the way.

Thanks for chiming in...

Going to a fundraiser this Saturday for Naws it is being put on by Peotone Illinois car club. It is a free show but they ask for a dination of pet supplies or cleaning product etc.

I am taken the Packard on this 35 mile drive one way to the fundraiser because Harley loved going for rides. We adopted him in 2002 and he lived with us until 2017.

It has been a few years since I changed the oil on the Packard. Pulled it out of the garage onto the driveway, pulled out the quickjack I had purchased last year and it lifted the Packard with ease.

Drained the oil, pulled the cover for the oil pump screen cleaned it up a little sealant on the cover and buttoned it up.

Took it for a few mile ride and it's almost ready to go.

But I have this pesky oil leak. It's at the base of the valve for the oil pressure gauge, line to oil filter and top end lubricator. I have taken this thing apart a few times already. Cleaned up the area the copper gasket and used a little sealant and it still leaks. I am ready to heave the copper gasket and replace it with some cork gasket and hope this stops this pesky leak.

Any advice is welcomed

Thanks
