Re: Removing retainer clips

I may have missed it in the thread, but where can one find these copper clips?

I've looked at PI's website and searced the internet but haven't located any.

Also mine are solid in place so to remove the handle in my rear door I used a screwdriver to split the retainer down the middle and pulled it out in two pieces. I wouldn't recommend that method unless you have to. (soaked it for days in pb blaster and it still wouldn't budge)

I figured I couldn't hurt the bit in the door anymore than it was already messed up.

Has anyone had expirience with the bit in the door being bent or damaged and have replaced it or fixed it somehow?

[Edit] the "bit" I'm referring to is the metal "slide" that the retaining clip slides into. Are these spot welded to the door? Or are they gel on some other fashion?

I sort of forgot about this thread, it was the Utica # beginning with D. The "D" portion of it was pretty covered. I was worried about it because with it covered up like that it looked as though someone had stamped the block to Mach the body vin. But this wasn't the case and looks like everything matches up.

Thanks for the help guys.

I'll also be posting the vin, theif proof, and Utica later as well as updating my registry.

Ok so someone mentioned they would like to know why others units hve failed.

A far as I can tell mine failed due to the type of clamp used on the vacuum (being the original), meshed with low fluid and tons of that white buildup.

Haven't taken it apart, so I haven't seen the rest I the inside, but from what I could tell it hasn't been serviced since the 80's.

[Edit] cheanged the clamps to seal the vacuum and added fluid. Now they Works alright now but I'm not satisfied just yet. Not sure what to do about that buildup.

I would like to have disc brakes in my 56 Patrician.

Though I'm no quite ready for them yet. I still need to work out my booster.

Not as a suggestion (at all) but a general question. Are disk brakes for the rear possible though unnessasary?

I didntbhave a chance to get under the hood again yesterday, but hopefully I will today.

How many numbers does the Utica number contain?
Would my trans be stamped with the same numbers or were they matched numbers or were they matched pairs at all?

The reason I ask is I don't remember seeing any letter code with that number, and I'm still a little worried as to why my engine is red. (which I've posted about before) and know is definatly not a correct colour. However I can't find any other colour remnants under that paint. And it goes all the way back to the trans and even the trans oil pan is red.

Vin Number Question
#28
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

Brandon
So I was wondering about my vin number.

In case you didn't know already I have a 56 Patrician.

I was told it was above the water pump stamped on the top of the block.
It's one of the first things I posted about whn I first came to the forum.

So here's my question.

It should be two sets of four numbers correct?
The number I found originally was 5682-4487 which matches my door plate.

Well i'm short on cash and the car isn't going to be moving again yet, so I was degreasing my engine bay and just generally tidying up. The vin number got pretty dirty after a while so I went to clean it off again, but the catch is I found another four digit number stamped slightly at an angle above my vin.

What is this number!?

I will post a pic later when I have a computer availible, I belive it starts in 7 but will post the complete number with the pic. Oh and tv their proof if that will help.

Re: Front End Rebuild Experience

I would post a poc but I have no camera at the moment.

So I guess my best description of it would be that the bushing (closest to firewall) on the drivers side upper support arm looks as though it has "exploded" from pressure.

The opposite side is cracked but intact. So what it's doing is putting the pin at a slight angle throught the arm. And when any movent happens in the car you get a metal to metal grinding noise.

I haven't moved the car since this happened so there shouldn't be any extra wear int the arm or pin yet.

So I went to the parts store and ordered the bushings as a kit, but haven't seen them yet so I don't know if they are correct.

So my next question was/ should be is do "kits" generally come with the pin too? Or do I re use the one on my car?

As for mentioning them being backwards i meant "reversed". I haven't checked yet so I don't know if they are or not.

I can't see the post from here but someone mentioned I need to check how they were installed to put them back in correctly. So I wasn't sure if they were "reversed" if it was a mistake at manufacturing or I that's just how they should be.
Oh and how do I tell if the pin is past it's service life?

Were the pins put in backwards for a reason or would it have been a mistake?

And how would I know if I were to need new pins?

I have new numbers for thoes bushings, and will post them after I purchase and make sure they are correct.
