My father, his friend and I walked the back line of numerous lots, probably that one also. They would offer $100.00 up to $300.00 for the 5 or 6 lost and unwanted tradeins taking up valuable space. These would be repaired, detailed and sold for around $100.00 ea. My high school friends would come over and we'd race them around my back yard. Those were the days of Dick Lane's Destruction Derby and Lew's Garage, $69.95 most 6's, $89.95 most 8's. In honor of my 53 Henny Jr, I am acknowledging the bus bench.
PS
I still have the 16" hubcaps from the 38 Cad dad gave me for my 13th birthday Oct. 1958.
Fun memories, Tom

51 with 700 / 16's

One of my neighbors collected what I think is a 51 Clipper that looks very origional, although a bit weathered from sitting lots of years. It is a 327, 3 speed, 4 door with 3 rear fender scallops. I was bit surprised to see it waring 16" wheels. I'm not too well versed in the post war packards prior to 53 but I don't recall any other 50's American car with 16's. The tires are 700 / 16 Contentals that were probibly there since the 60's. It didn't come with hubcaps. My 52 bodied Henny Jr has 15's. I would have suspected that, if any Packard used 16's it would be the commercial chasses.

Maybe I should trade? Thanks,Tom

Portugal seems to like wagons. I wonder, how far apart are these? Same builder?

Brake cleaner & welder death sentence

This bit of information showed up in the Cadillac group today. As my garage contains both TIG and MIG welders as well as lots of cans of cleaners including brake, I can see a problem.

I'm posting this on all my forums and I shall print it out and present it to every one with a garage and tools. It is worth a second thought. I hope this link works.
Stay safe, Tom

JW;

I don't see where you store PM's, so I'll resort to replying.
I'm not sure what a 47 splash shield is. I assume you are not referring to the inner fender well but a horizontal shield across the front of the car under the engine. If you can, either Email me, Tomoldcars@AOL.com, reply, or call me with a description. I expect to arrive at the Doubletree around 7:30 PST tomorrow. I just noticed Bigkev is arriving from the east. I shall try to avoid him as we both hit the 91 / 57 interchange.

On another note, there is a 42-47 Packard body sitting behind lots of boats not far from me.
The part'y is just starting, Tom

As of now, I plan to arrive around 8:00 AM Sunday. I will list my needed parts tomorrow, thereby insuring they will be nonexistent Sunday. My offer as roving reporter still stands. Call me @ (909) 489-8913. I can't predict my hours on site, but it will be AM PST. There are LOTS of venders with LOTS of parts.

Part'ing with my Packards, Tom

8:00 AM - 2:00 PM: Swap Meet and Parts Exchange open to the public.

One hurdle has been cleared, it is predicted that the meet will be hosted by California's famous sun as well as the Southern California Region of Packards International Motor Car Club. As of now, there is nothing to prevent my attending. I plan to arrive early and collect parts I need before they leave. I am renewing my offer to act as spotter for anyone needing parts who sends me contact information. You can email or, if necessary, call me @ (909) 489-8913. I'll update this again toward the end of the week or if anything changes.

Have fun, Tom

Barring unforeseen events or heavy rain, I will be attending the Packard Swap Meet at the Doubletree Hotel in Orange Ca. Sunday, Feb 17. I have been going for several years now and have found some amazing bargains on parts I have needed. I now have a long list of pieces needed for my Henny and Clipper. I will be willing to look for parts anyone here needs if you send me what you're looking for and a contact number. If you have a phone number, I can call and describe what I find on site or let you speak directly to the vender. I'm not quite sure how this will work, but there are two weeks to sort out the details. My email is Tomoldcars@AOL.com.

Have fun out there, Tom
