I like the quote at the bottom of your messages regarding what your wife will do with your "toys" when you die.

Reminds me of a great Rodney Dangerfield one-liner: "My wife took out a $10,000 home-improvement loan and gave me the money to move out."

Storage facility with several Packards on American Pickers

I recently saw a re-run of an American Pickers episodes in which the guys met a fellow with a storage facility with several Packards. There were even a couple of Packards sitting outside in the elements.

By chance, has anyone in the forum met this fellow or approached him about purchasing any of his Packards?

Based on the banter between the Pickers and the owner, there are a bunch of family members involved complicating the purchasing of any of the cars. I also picked up on a pervasive attitude that they would prefer to let the cars rust than sell them--which is often the case.

Did the Essex Terraplane have the highest horsepower to weight ratio?

I'm reading a bio of gangster John Dillinger which states that his preferred getaway car was the Essex Terraplane.

I did some research on the Essex Terraplane and read it had a two brake system, one hydraulic and one mechanical, should one or the other fail. Did Packards of that area have duo-brake systems?

Also, the Terraplane straight eight engines featured a highly efficient downdraft carburetor, while supposedly having the highest horsepower-to-weight ratio of any car currently in production, including Packard.

Anybody who'd like to expand on/ correct any of this information, I'd welcome the info.

kind regards

Did anyone see the '39 Packard 120 on American Pickers?

The American Pickers found a 1939 Packard 120. The seller wanted 40,000, but the Pickers' expert said it that in the condition the Packard was in, the best they could offer was $30,000.

Did Roger Ailes's father work at the Packard plant in Warren, OH/

Did the father of the late Roger Ailes (of Fox News fame) work at the Packard plant in Warren, OH?

In episode three of series "The Loudest Voice in the Room," Ailes is giving a speech to the townspeople of Warren, OH, in which he says his father worked at the Packard plant.

Knowing Ailes' history of "re-shaping" information to appeal to an audience, I was wondering if it was true his father worked at Packard.

Wasn't there a 1929 Packard 633 recently auctioned on either Mecum or Barrett Jackson?

Does anyone know what it sold for?

Say a person buys a Packard 120 coupe that is painted egg-yolk yellow and wants to have it repainted to its original color--whatever they may have been.

What would it cost for a paint job?

Garish paint jobs are rather off-putting

While I fully appreciate that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that there is no accounting for individual personal taste, but it is a challenge for me to appreciate magnificently styled and designed Pre-War Packards painted to look like a Mardi Gras float.

Evidently, there is an echelon of clients who prefer Packards with garish paint jobs. Or perhaps, clients buy them with the intention of repainting them.

I shutter to consider what a new paint job might cost.
