i was wrong.. both windows i need are front door windows..

3-25-08
so, i rebuilt the MC and ran into a

problem.

but i ordered a new part, and it should be here sometime durring the week.

3-29-08
i pulled the drivers side wheel off and removed the brake assembly, drum, and everything down the the spindle. i cleaned every part spotless(i even got the lugnuts shiney!), repacked the berrings, rebuilt the wheel cylinder, and replaced almost every brake part. the brakes, parts, and rubber all looked to be in good shape, but i replaced most everything anyway.

it took me a FULL day of playing with chemicals, scrubbing, twisting and banging to get ONE wheel done. it was a great day!

oh yeah.. i live in the pacific northwest (portland, oregon), so it rained/hailed/snowed on me all day. i am working on my packard outside. (as you can see from the pictures)

**edit**
i believe i've located my "wobble". i think the tire itself is warped/hard/not balanced form old age and causing the car to bob up and down. we'll see later when i replace the tires.

The whole car pretty much. I'm keeping the engine and trans for another project, but everything that's there is up for grabs. There are no pedals left in it, though.

i could use a driver's side front door window, and a passanger's side read door window.. but from your pictures, you dont have them either :)

i'll keep an eye out around the car for anything. i really appreciate it man!

the problem is, i only have a grand total of ~1/8" to work with.. the piston rod seats against it at the place it broke on one side so thats 0" i have to work with on that side.. the thing itself is around 1/16" and there's another 1/16" space between it and the bottom part of the diaphram assembly thing.. and it has to be air-tight as well? *sigh*

J.D. over at maxmerrittauto.com is looking for a replacement for me.. so.. we'll see..

so i pulled it apart and i found that the bottom part of the air-piston-thing (in the booster) there was a hole.

i drove it a little more this weekend. i think the wobble may be in the tire itself, but i'm going to tackle the brakes first. i pulled the master cylinder. i have bendix power brakes, so it'll be a little difficult finding parts. i tore it all apart and ordered a rebuild kit(from kanter). i noticed that the brass valve that the brake lines screw into was striped and cracked, so i ordered one of those for $40(from max merritt). the kit i bought cost me around $340, so all together $380 shipped.

oh yeah! i hooked up the vacuum hoses for the wipers, and they work! yay for one less thing to fix/replace! (i was wondering what the knob on the steering column was). i also messed with the electric antenna until i got it working aswell!

i've been putting a lot of thought into it since i last posted.. i'm going to try my hardest to stick with the motor that it has. (until it dies.. which i hope it doesn't). it's not that i want my packard modernized, i just want it safe and reliable.

my next concern is the wiring. it's all original (or so i assume, because it all looks a million years old with cloth coated wires that are all falling apart). i saw a post about re-wiring, but i figured i'd bring it up again. so let me cut to the chase.

the whole car needs rewired. if i'm going to pull every wire and replace it. should i go 12 volt? OR.. check this out.. anyone know where i can buy the cloth covered wires? because, even though they fall apart, i think they look awesome, and have lots of style.

1 )switch to 12 volt? yes/no

2) cloth wires? yes/no

throw out some opinions and facts if you have'em!

in my first post at the top of this thread i mentioned some things similar to what you're saying. mostly about the cookie-cutter ford/chev/merc.

i had a long talk with my clipper when i first got it. i promised it that as long as the motor ran well, and didn't strand me, i'd keep it. i always keep my promises. (yeah.. i talk to my car.. get over it)

this is a quote from my "project blog" thread.

i rebuilt the carb and fuelpump over the week.. and installed them today.. VVRRRROOOOOOOOOOM!.. totally runs! drove it around the block a couple times.. sweeeeeet.. the front end wobbles like crazy though.. i'll have to figure that out.. oh yeah.. and the breaks are as hard as a rock..

some things are just a matter of safety. i have a child, and i want her to be safe in the car with me. so, everything i do to this vehicle, i have to take her into consideration. (thats why i went with a 4door vehic in the first place.) i'm going to add seatbelts (omg!) and some sort of restraint sytem for a childseat. also, i plan on putting a lot of time and effort into the break-system. if i feel that the breaks that are on it aren't enough to make my family and me feel safe in the car, you can bet that i'll modern-ize all 4 wheels (with a rustang II front and a 9" rear).

please keep in mind that my cars are ment to be driven. this car had been sitting for ages, and not taken care of. why? because it didn't run, and no one could drive it. i have no intention of "ruining" this car but, i do plan on having fun with it. will it be "show" quality? pfft.. not right now. will it EVER be show quality? give me 20 years, and we'll see.

i'm not touching the dash (other than to get all the lights working).

i'm not putting "rims" on it. (i have 2 full sets (5) of hubcaps. some rusty possibly-original ones, and the shiney most-likey-reproduction ones).

i'm not doing any "cutting" or "shaving" to the body. (heh, yeah.. i'll get the dents out, but that doesn't count)

i think i've decided to take the side chrome off. i'll put it back on later. i'm not gonig to throw it away. there are a lot of dented pieces, and it will look bad if i'm missing parts and pieces. so it's come'n off until they're done.

i'm painting fames on it. it's going to happen. i've been painting flames on things my whole life. good paint is going to be one of the LAST things i do to this vehic.

it's getting lowered. i'd like to add airshocks at least to the rear so i can raise and lower it depending on circumstance.

and now, at last, i've forgotten the point of my post. but, i do hope this clears the air.
