One of the most attractive color combinations for '55, in my opinion. I'm glad you took her to the Packard plant. I live in the Detroit area, and I haven't even managed to do that yet!

I realized AFTER I'd already posted that Zis one ( ) was NOT a Zis.

BUT I had utmost faith that you would set the matter straight! Thank you!

I remember seeing a scan of a TSB (?) on another manual-transmission thread, wherein Packard explicitly stated that they were THE only automobile company offering a manual transmission option for fine cars.

It might have been for 1955, come to think of it.

...the 1940 Packards were introduced at the Chicago Auto Show.

And since Packard was the first manufacturer to install air conditioning from the factory, it's also the 75th anniversary of factory air!

Below is a link to an article from Automotive News in 1996 that covers the trials and tribulations of cooling closed cars...

Dad's '47 Clipper had overdrive. I don't remember much about that car, except that he had a toggle switch mounted below the dash to turn it on or off....

When he bought a brand-new 1965 Checker Marathon, he ordered it with the 230 ci Chevy six/3-speed manual trans with overdrive.

The Checker was mine to drive in HS. If you didn't engage the OD at highway speeds, the RPM at 60 or so was incredibly high.

I don't know how true this is, but I read somewhere that after 50 years, maybe 1% of original production cars are left.

I tend to think that's low, but others may want to weigh in.

Although still a long way away it would be good to see as many PackardInfo people there as possible, come one come all!

Well, I've enjoyed your posts for years, Mal...

AND the PPG is only a very short distance from where I live, so I have NO excuse to miss next year's event!...

Yes, thank you for the wonderful photos!

I must hang my head in shame, as I DID go to the event in 2013, but for some reason, it was totally off my radar this year. I did not pay attention to the post about it here, so missed it entirely.

I MUST go in 2015, since Mal plans to be there!...
