I am going to replace the intake gaskets on my 55 Pat. My question is: do I need any kind of sealer, or install them dry?

I was going to check the timing on my 55 Patrician. I checked the manual, but it didnt say whether or not to unhook the vacuum advance. Any ideas? Also, do you retard the timing for the modern gas? Thanks, Steve

Does anyone have a source for the secondary spring?

Thanks! To answer a few questions: Timing is 6 BTDC. Carb is a 7230. I will check the tension of the secondary spring (looking for a new one, no joy) Also, I will set the idle air screws with a vacuum gauge either tonite or tomorrow and give an update.

The carb was bought from a guy that had it rebuilt, but never used it. It ran pretty good until this morning. Can you walk me through setting with a vacuum gauge?

The carb on my 55 Patrician is giving me fits! After having it properly adjusted and running great for the last week, it started acting up. Rough idle, tendancy to stall when in gear and the brake on.(Runs great going down the road). Ive tried to adjust the idle screws on the front with no luck. Ive disconnected all vacuum and plugged them, but no luck.
Now for the real kicker. After it sits a few minutes, its back to normal. New cap, rotor, wires, bug, coil and resistor have been installed already. Ive also sprayed the usual places looking for leaks. Is there a modern carb that can replace this?
