Another excellent choice for the hangers, in addition to tire carcass, is a peice of conveyer belt, and is very similar to original material.

Now. I know at least two ways to do it.

Thanks for the adrenaline boost! Looks like I'll have to sharpen the ends of the tweezers since I haven't seen any micro sized needle nose. If I can see I'll get it out!

I was afraid you were going to say that. Guess I'll have to take it out into the bright daylight and hopefully I can see the blasted thing. About three years ago I spent days trying to get one of those out of a 750K brake master cylinder and that master cylinder was AHOAL bigger than that rotor hole.

Is the "C" clip in the hole at the top of shaft where the rotor fits, or on the dhaft just above the cam lobe? I can't see a clip at either place, even after cleaning it and using a magnifing glass. Looking at the drawing plate 21 the only "C" clip I see is on the shaft below the breaker plate.

I got back to my Distributor work today and ran into a problem right off. I thought the breaker plate would come out without removing the drive gear and the shaft, but, it looks as though that is not the case. Am I wrong about that.

PackardV8, When I take my cover off I will check my rockers to see if they have a peewee hole. Like I said mine is supposed to be a late 56 build date, but,I have had other vehicles with parts from earlier models. One that still haunts my memory is,I had a 61 Mercury monterey (great car)with a 352 V8. I started having some tranny problems after about 15K, it turned out the wrong trans had been installed when built and was way undersized for the car.I was lucky, I found a new one (Real cheap too) that was correct for the car, installed it and no more problems.

PackardV8,I will do all of what you suggested. I also read (I think it yours)thread, saying you used a string and swabbing cloth to clean out the rocker shaft.

Why is the early 55's did not have the oiling issues.

I agree about doing the EZ things first. I almost pulled the valve cover but changed my mind after getting really good compression and vacuum test results, but it probably a good idea to go ahead and do it and actually make sure exactly what is happening in there.
After I get the distributor back in and the timing right the noise may disappear. If not I'll pull the cover and if every thing looks ok, I'll add a pint or two of oil to see if that helps. If that doesn't help I'll do the reroute of 1/4" tubing from the sender location and check for air bubbles in the filter cannister. If no problems are found at tihis point I would be thinking CARBON BUILD UP and try to decarbon it.

The drained oil didn't have very many running hours on it but, I was also very surprised how clean it was. It had that honey color to it on the dip stick and on the white cloth I used to wipe the stick with. I did 4 or 5 previous oil changes since buying the car about 4 1/2 years ago. even though the oil looked pretty good when I bought it, I changed it immediately and checked it for debris but, didn't find anything to worry about.
