1952 Packard pelican

Someone had rechomed the hood ornament before I bought the car. The wings are loose and will come out very easy. I was thinking of putting rubber cement in the holes and putting the wings in it to hold them but I was wondering if someone has a better idea. Thanks for any replies

1952 Packard coil question

1952 Packard Mayfair. Should the coil have an internal or external resistor? I looked at the wiring diagram and do not see a resistor unless it's in the ignition switch or coil.

1952 Packard timing

According to the book i have the timing should be set 6 degrees before top dead center. When I put the timing there using a timing light the engine pings a lot. The brass adaptor between the carb and vacuum line was missing so I installed a new 1. The vacuum advance works when I put vacuum to it. The mechanical advance in the distributor works when I move it by hand and it returns as it should. The car is a 1952 Mayfair. There was a broken vacuum line from intake to fuel pump so I replaced it. The engine idles very smooth like a Packard should. When I got the car it pinged bad on acceleration. When I checked the timing it was no where near the marks. Thanks for any replies

amazon had a skf 5569 seal for 4.08 including tax and free 1 day shipping. Its hard to believe they can make sell it and ship it for that price. Tried to order 2 but they only had 1 in stock.

This one fills under the car and is not much fun to fill.I put a clear plastic hose on a funnel but maybe someone has a better way to fill it I have read about a small pump to fill it.I was looking at the Packard parts x-ref there is a number listed 5569 SKF for the control shaft seal.

This is probably a dumb question. My trans leaks slightly when parked. The leak seems to be at the control shaft on the right side would it be possible to tap the seal in so another seal could be slid over the shaft and tapped in place? My other thought was drop the pan slide the shaft over a few inches remove old seal and reassemble. Has anyone done this in the car? Also how do you know if its a gear start type trans. Also is there away to take the seal number from parts picture and get a modern number? 3.587 or 3.596

After my last post I did notice that all the cars are 50s cars probably a coincidence.I will try adding the stabil and mystery oil.If anyone else has other ideas let me know.Something has changed with gas in the last 3 years.I have owned antique cars for 40 years and have never had this problem.
