..just saw your post..and where were you when I was at the Piston Ring club this past February..lolol Am a foreign member of the Piston Ring.. Ah you know Philip too and his 20-30 Packards..Hennie Van Jaarsfedt also has 48-50's Packard..near Roodeport. Are you coming to Hershey..I mean my wife and i have only had 95 South Africans stay in our home over the years.lolol They come for ..you got it ..Hershey and the Henry Ford Museum and the Duesenburg museum..etc etc..lolol When you see Godfrey Berry ed. of the Piston Ring Bulliten tell him to dump his Hudsons and get a real car like a Packard..lol Sandy Mitchell Petersburg, MI

it is an interesting fact regarding Packards and other American makes of cars especially in the 20's and 30's
The Afrikaner(Dutch) still had vivid memories of the Anglo Boer war in 1900's. Many would rather have been dead as opposed to being seen driving an English made car at the time. So many of them opted to drive cars other than English. The well to do Afrikaaner would perhaps drive Buick or Chrysler, Hudsons and Studebakers in additon to the Fords and Chevs. Plus they were more durable and reliable given the road conditions at the time. An Afrikaner of well to do means would opt to drive a Packard or Cadillac but never a Rolls or a Bentley or other Bristish car for that matter. below another of my buds with his recently restored RHD 902 limo owned by an Afrikaaner farmer who bought it new in 1932 and drove it mainly just around the farm.

Boys your on the right track...Ive been to South Africa 5 times. and know many of the packard guys down there..Yes I have also been to my buddy who has at least 20 30 packards sitting around in his back yard..from the mid 30's to 55
I also have a bud who has all the production figures of Packard South Africa for the 55 and 56 models which were shipped CKD to East London Assembly plant now the Mercedes plant. I just returnd after having spent a month in S africa visiting my car buds..was at a show in George and there were 5 Packards there..I knew all the guys..there was a 41 120 48 limo, couple of 48 standards 6 cyc variet which were export only from the states and a 48 convertible. My buddy at one time had a 120 limo supposedly owned by Gerneral Jan Smuts. another bud now deseased had a 110 4 door deluxe. antoher has an unrestored 38 six. another a 1929 640 roadster, another a 1937 super victoria coupe RHD another 726 another a 733 another37 120 convertible another 1931 120 convertible and the list goes on and on. Heading back in Feb for another month..those boys like their cars, beers/whiskies and of course their Rugby and Cricket..lolol oh yeah..throw a pretty lady on the side. LOLO ive heard rumors that a twin six teen era hand once been in S. Africa...trying to get info on it..If so I think I know who had it..in the 70's oh yeah theres a 53 carribean down there too. have a list of all dealers or distributors in S Africa for 1938

hmm Ive been looking as you call it...'up the butt' of the Pelican to see how wings are attached. BUTT i can see no screw in that area..lolo..yet the wings are definately not cast into the body..hmm
There are three screws that hold the Pelican to the base..two in front and one into the underside of the tail.

noitced the front bumper...it should be black with nickel or chorme beauty strips held in place by t-bolts. Also used on the 3rd and 4 series vechicles.

on engine compartment...
Some will replace the hex head nuts with chrome acorn nuts as used on the 443 8cyc models..however, the six's had just the plain hex heads..That is not to say they werent available from the dealer as perhaps an acorss the counter item. But all the sixes i can recall have the plain hex head nuts on the cyc heads.

I forgot to mention..the clock as shown..I cant tell from the pictures, but it also looks incorrect..the correct type would be a Jaeger or Waltham clock..also used on the 6th thru the 8th series.
Note on the Boyce Moto meter..the six's were thinner from a side profile whereas the eights were a bit thicker. Also the Godess of speed was an option to the Boyce Moto meter.
