Panic over...... it arrived at 9.00am today!!

Much relieved and properly excited.

I spent the day cleaning and polishing and the sun even shone this afternoon

Here she is on my driveway.

Thanks guys.

In the fullness of time I intend to reinstate the original vacuum pump. It is still all there, even the glass bowl but it has been disconnected from at the top and at the bowl.

I dont know why it was abandoned in favour of an electric pump.

I dont know how the vaccum system works so I guess I have two jobs to do.

I know the car has been used successfully for the last 5 years or so with the electric pump and it certainly seemed ok when I first looked at it, so I would like to get it working properly again.

Thereafter can anyone give me any details on how the vaccum system works so I can remove this and have a look to see what, if anything, is wrong. Once this is good to go, I will reinstate it and ditch the electric one.

Thanks again for your feedback and advice

At long last I have taken delivery of my 745 phaeton and enjoying getting to know it.

My first small issue is a rather bad fuel leak when I fire up the engine. The vacuum pump has been bypassed at some time and an electric fuel pump has been installed.

I dont think its the pump itself that is forcing the leak as I have run the pump on its own and it seems not to leak. Once the engine is running the fuel literally pours out of the bottom of the carb from both points I have circled in the photo.

Do any of you good folk have any words of wisdom before I start to take out and dismantle the carb?

Sounds like a great idea but that would cost $400 in fuel alone and its likely to be many weeks before the weather here is good enough for that kind of trip.

How frustrating is this?

I had wanted the phaeton delivered last week but in the UK, thats when the new registration number sequence came out so car sales peak. I was struggling to get a covered transporter booked because of this.

I finally found one and booked the car for collection yesterday and delivery to me today.

Because of a mix-up with payment over a car that he was to deliver before mine (damned BMW wouldnt you know)he ran late and called off the collection.

Then he promised to collect and deliver today in one hit (280 miles each way so brave but possible)

Now I wake up this morning to gale force wind and snow on high ground so its cancelled!

Shoot me someone!!!!

Ever since I was a kid I wanted a late 20's / early 30's Packard. Being in the UK there are practically none so I could only look at photos in books and dream...

But now (age 43) I have come good and finally purchased a beautiful 7th series 1930 Dual Cowl Phaeton. Just clearing the garage and hoping to take delivery in about 10 days.

While it looks perfect there are hundreds of small jobs to do to bring it up to the condition I want so I will be asking you good folk for advice no doubt. I'll post regular picutres of the detailed work, but for now, this is me after parting with my money.....
