Is there a part number, model and year, or other means to identify the foot operated jack you have modified? Looks like a great idea.

Great insight. You're correct. They were using jack points on the axle, I'll try using the bumper jack point.

51 Patrician 400 Rear Tire Removal

For the first time with this car, I had the tires rotated and balanced on my 1951 Patrician 400. The tires are L78's, 15 inch diameter. The technician removed the rear fender skirts and the lug screws from the wheels but the tire was too wide for the cavity between the hub and the the fender wall to remove the tire. Their solution was to remove the air from the tire and the tire easily dropped from the cavity. They reversed the process replacing the tire. Placing the wheel on the rear spindel with no air in the tire and then reinflating the tire after the wheel was mounted in position. I don't recall ever having this problem with my 55 or 56 Patrician. Did the technician not have the patience to tilt the tire at the correct angle to remove it or is there a special technique with the 51 Patrician 400 for tire removal/replacement?

The Sloan book is available in paperback:

"My Years with General Motors" by Albert P. Sloan, Jr.
ISBN 0-385-04235-3

While an interesting history of the growth of infant technology to a very large and mature industry, I agree with the comment that is a much better business process book than an entertaining read of the history of the auto industry.

FYI, production Orders for the 1956 model year are available as noted in a copy of the email below:

Dear Mike,

We would have the PO for the 1956 ($40), but not for the earlier cars. You can order them through the Museum Store (888) 391-5600.

Thanks!

Hi to BH,
I checked the Autolite website but could not find the link to the 56 Packard Transmission posting you referenced. Could you find the site and post a copy of the internet link to the site? Thanks!

Kev,
What's the process for notifying you or the software when an "unidentified" car is identified by a member?

There is a 54 Packard Patrician current for sale on Ebay. There are a number of good photos that are posted with the car. However, I don't believe the interior is covered in the original factory material. You could "ask a question of the seller" in the Ebay posting options and find out if it is an original interior. Hope you are have found all the info you need to make an informed decision.
