Thanks for all the replies. I think I am gonna stick with the color I have. I was a bit concerned about the 'greenness' in direct sunlight, but I think the rich dark color in the shade will be worth it. Also when the new rechromed parts are fitted it will be nicely offset by the dark green. I am alos thinking of a 'biscuit' colored upholstery and carpet to offset the dark outside.
So this coming weekend I am gonna buy the paint, hardner and reducer. I am gonna buy 6 litres paint, 3 litre hardner and some thinners/reducer.
I will be applying 3 coats and then refinsh by hand with 600 grit paper before applying another 6 coats. then hand finishing with 2000 grit and water to get rid of orange peel hopefully.
Anyway, this is what my paint guy recommends so LOTS of work ahead, but I am looking forward to the result with great anticipation.

On the other side of the cowl, there is also a big fitting and then the thin tubing you referenced goes from the fitting to the oil gauge. The big fitting is just to connect the thin tube on both sides.

In your opinions, what is the most reliable Packard engine (years made) and what is the most economical?

Agreed, Tom. Here's what I would have expected to see.

Dave,

Did you notice that the accelerator pedal stop is between the brake and clutch? That would, to me, indicate the car originally had the pedal arrangement you describe. Jeez, that would be hard to get used to!

Cheers,

p.s. Mal, great photos!

Henry,

Very nice to meet you over the weekend. I, and many others, appreciate you bringing your chassis to the show. I am still amazed at the force wound up in the leveling system!

Cheers,

Tom

try getting under the hood and bringing the engine RPM up. see if you can find the source of the noise. coupled with the loss of fluid, im thinking its your power steering pump. maybe..

its hard to diagnose a sound you cant hear!

For 46-50, those with the 356 9-main bearing engine are Seniors, the rest are not. Specifically, 42-47 Seniors are Super Clippers and Custom Super Clippers, 48-50 Seniors are Custom 8s.

You could view the Juniors as middle price class cars, and the Seniors as luxury class cars. Some would say the further you get from the first introduction of the 120, when Packard decided they needed a "cheaper" car to survive, the murkier the distinctions get.
