Nicely done upholstery job. Amazed they went to the trouble of individual coil springs in the first place after having used cheap hydraulic jacks for a window lift elsewhere---but then maybe not--wouldn't want some general or commissar to have callouses on his butt with all the hard work of reviewing the troops to do.

I still say the cow is better company and looks like the queen of the ball--crown and all. Is that your friend driving and any damage to the car trying to keep the queen from falling out or over?

BigKev- You mentioned you were going to NAPA - Did NAPA have the correct brake shoes in stock? Did you have to have X-Ref information with you, or the old brake shoes with you?

Also, I noticed your detailed pictures on the water distribution tube removal (Post #260, page 13). Since I've been having a lot of overheating problems I think this may be worth the effort to pull out and inspect. To do so I'll have to remove the radiator and grill.

Bearings on the rear must be packed.I believe it was this way on all post war Packards up until 1956.My 48 is this way and not to long ago we did a friends 54 Cavalier.

I don't propose to get into a long winded debate with you over this as we both know where those have gotten us in the past. I am not even close to suggesting that your sources are wrong or inaccurate. However to parphrase a line from a favorite christmas movie of mine " three sources are hardly proof positive" Accept the fact that there can NEVER be a definitive conclusion to this subject. Since at this time all of the main participants are dead. We can never know. To call Jim Nance and out and out liar based on one of your sources, all I can say is don't quit your day job and go to work for a newspaper, they would go bankrupt from the lawsuits. Nance had his opinion and reasons, Mason had his, and Romney had his. Who is right, and who is wrong, no one KNOWS for sure. We all have our opinions, sources, theories, and conjectures. As I said it will NEVER be solved. But it does make for spirited conversation.

No doubt you're correct on reason for the breakage. Have ran across a couple but didn't bother to analyze why--just made a contact out of an old open style relay I had laying around and attached it--worked so that was all I cared about...and I realize I should have asked ramspoker a couple of more questions to ascertain if in fact he hears his shifter is moving when selecting reverse since he did mention electronics..Suppose it could be something electric after all although don't quite understand the tie in with the cold or a few miles if it is--at least not without some other symptoms.
