Should 22nd and 23rd series Custom 8 Victorias be CCCA classics

I don't own one (although I wish I did) and I am not including the sedans or club sedans because the Clipper series had both. They did not make a Clipper convertible so the Custom Eight is the nearest thing to one. They are truly magnificent machines and I believe they deserve classic status.Ant thoughts?NOTE: not a member of the CCCA either.

Nicely done upholstery job. Amazed they went to the trouble of individual coil springs in the first place after having used cheap hydraulic jacks for a window lift elsewhere---but then maybe not--wouldn't want some general or commissar to have callouses on his butt with all the hard work of reviewing the troops to do.
I still say the cow is better company and looks like the queen of the ball--crown and all. Is that your friend driving and any damage to the car trying to keep the queen from falling out or over?

BigKev- You mentioned you were going to NAPA - Did NAPA have the correct brake shoes in stock? Did you have to have X-Ref information with you, or the old brake shoes with you?
Also, I noticed your detailed pictures on the water distribution tube removal (Post #260, page 13). Since I've been having a lot of overheating problems I think this may be worth the effort to pull out and inspect. To do so I'll have to remove the radiator and grill. Quote: So with the pump off, I figure it was a good time to pull and clean the water distribution tube. It took me awhile to pull it loose. I guess 50 years of rust and gunk gets things pretty well stuck. So out came the tube. I guess it was a good thing that the pump was leaking and as such allowed me to clean the distribution tube as the rear 4-5 inches of the tube were completely clogged with rust scale and dirt. I would imagine that cylinder 8 was getting reduced flow compared to the rest of the cylinders. You mentioned the reduced flow, were you able to clean up the tube? It would be a large undertaking for me to get to the water distribution tube, but if it will cure my overheating I'm willing to give it a go.

I don't propose to get into a long winded debate with you over this as we both know where those have gotten us in the past. I am not even close to suggesting that your sources are wrong or inaccurate. However to parphrase a line from a favorite christmas movie of mine " three sources are hardly proof positive" Accept the fact that there can NEVER be a definitive conclusion to this subject. Since at this time all of the main participants are dead. We can never know. To call Jim Nance and out and out liar based on one of your sources, all I can say is don't quit your day job and go to work for a newspaper, they would go bankrupt from the lawsuits. Nance had his opinion and reasons, Mason had his, and Romney had his. Who is right, and who is wrong, no one KNOWS for sure. We all have our opinions, sources, theories, and conjectures. As I said it will NEVER be solved. But it does make for spirited conversation.

do I have to repack that axle bearing, or is it lubed another way? Good idea to check the manual, but my gut tells me to always pack 'em, even if they can be lubed from an external grease fitting or internally from the axle. At the least, it will assure they have initial lubrication as soon as the wheel starts to roll. Just like in an engine, the most wear comes in the first few seconds until lubrication gets to all moving parts. If I'm all wet, someone come in and give me 20 lashes with a wet noodle.

While I greatly appreciate your invitation I cannot believe you expect me to pay for my own trip.
After all it was the Irish who populated your country with some of our finest minds, including vagabonds, thieves, sheep rustlers and this is the thanks we get! As Shakespeare said in King Lear, 'How sharper than a serpent's tooth it is To have a thankless child!' But I do wish I could make it there! All the best with the show. Pat.
