GTO 5682 L Converted from PB.I notice Turbopackman listed a 5582 with PB.Since it was not available on a 5582, I guess his was converted the other way.

I had Bob Aller rebuild my second generation pump.I just took it out on a 50 mile Highway run .My oil pressure is great and the lifter noise is gone.I guess there is another alternative.

Packard58wagon asks about the purchase of Studebaker by Packard. In the book "Packard, a history of the Motor car and the company" published by Automobile Quarterly and edited by Beverly Rae Kimes on page 575 "But the Studebaker-Packard combination was no merger, inspite of the repeated use of that designation by automotive Historians and Publications. In an agreement dated June 22nd, the terms stated:Packard desires to purchase and Studebaker desires to sell... all the property and assets of Studebaker, including its name, business and good will, in exchange soley for shares of Packard voting stock an assumption by Packard of substantially all liabilities of Studebaker"

Turbopackman "just about anything Italian is preferable to anything American made".

It is this sentiment (substitute German, French, Japanese) that has made America what it is today-a third world has been.

No.As I said, I am not a member of the CCCA and I don't have a Custom Eight Victoria. But here is another interesting point.CCCA, as you pointed out, does recognize the 46-47 Super Clipper as a full classic yet the AACA does not.I thought they always used the CCCA definition of Classic.

I fully understand why the Custom Eight sedans were not considered ie. there is no pre war carry over.Packard, however, failed to make a pre war or post war Clipper Convertible. The post war Custom Eight Victoria is the closest thing to a pre war 160 Convertible and possibly a better built car.Why can't the CCCA expand there horizons a little?

I don't own one (although I wish I did) and I am not including the sedans or club sedans because the Clipper series had both. They did not make a Clipper convertible so the Custom Eight is the nearest thing to one. They are truly magnificent machines and I believe they deserve classic status.Ant thoughts?NOTE: not a member of the CCCA either.

Bearings on the rear must be packed.I believe it was this way on all post war Packards up until 1956.My 48 is this way and not to long ago we did a friends 54 Cavalier.

I knew you would appreciate the fact that I did not mention your name.I do recall though that when I bought my 1955 400, my father said "Why buy that? It's not a real Packard"
