Folks,
On my 47 2106 the owners manual says the "ammeter" is not one! Is it a voltage meter, then_?

Use an escutcheon tool. Worked on my Clipper. Use plastic putty knives to hold the gap open, and tap out the retaining pin. Bought at

Thank you! I appreciate your help.
I called a locksmith. He used air bladders to open the passenger vent a smidge and got the passenger door unlocked. The vent window was cracked, however.

Both did not fail at the same time, I assumed a previous owner changed the lock cylinder on the passenger door and I did not get the key. Now, I think I was wrong.
I was able to use the unlock button to get the passenger side open via vent window which got cracked.
However, the drivers door will open with the inside handle only and the lock knob moves and makes normal clicking noises.

I will open the drivers door and go from there.

Drivers door handle permanently locked.
Home away from home
Home away from home

I have a 1947 Clipper. I came out from dinner one evening last week and could not get my drivers door unlocked. The lock cylinder rotated normally but the door handle would not unlock. I tried the passenger door and the same problem. I thought at first the passenger lock had been changed by a previous owner. Now I think they both failed for the same reason.

Any tips on this repair?

There are plenty of them in Hemmings. I have never used one but plan to do so. I have aux gauges for engine temp and oil pressure I want to get rid of, But, not until the ones on the dash are rebuilt. Any recommendations for a vendor, anyone?

On the starter the answer is no. Engine Vacuum keeps the metal ball suspended above the electrical contacts in the switch mounted on the carburetor. When the engine is shut off, the engine vacuum ceases and the ball drops down to make electrical contact for the next time car is started.

Packard designed this type of starter switch so the car could be quickly restarted if stalled out from using the clutch to soon.

Re: Today's Packard Mystery - Rear Defroster

I suspect the one without the heater was a later model. I recall seeing a rear defroster on a GM car when I was young that just blew cabin air across the rear window to defrost it. Packard probably found it unnecessary to add the electrical load for a heater in their defroster to a 6 volt system.

replace vent wing glass 47 Custom Super Clipper
Home away from home
Home away from home

Rscott77x
The vent wing on the right front passenger door is cracked due to locksmith getting me into my locked car!! The manual does not explain how to get the glass out and the new glass in. Is this something an auto glass shop should do??

Glass will be here in 2 weeks!!

If a DIY project, I want to do it...

Thanks.
