Nice work Howard!!!
The previous picture did not show what the bracket was used for. We are not going with AC however that same type of bracket I am looking at building. With respect to welding..."A grinder and paint make a welder what he aint"...is my motto. I am looking at 1955 Chrysler PS pump and 6V generator combo unit as a more elegant solution to the problem. I would need a new pulley to accommodate the Class D belt. This is what it looks like before it goes in for a spa treatment. Attach file: (27.97 KB)

THANKS Owen.
Any feedback from the Monroe guys? I am opting for a Monroe because I can get one NOS and it is more compact than the Bendix.

That is my life in general...not just on the Packard forum. Good info...I will certainly check out the spark plugs after the break in to see how the mixture is burning during cruise. Yes the newest of the newer of the new fuel is much different than the Ethel. First they got rid of the lead, then they began to oxygenate the fuel, and here in California they are changing the blends of the fuel based on seasons. My course of action will be to not screw with the distributor or carb until after the break in because "If it aint broke...dont fix it". My dad did install a remote fuel pump to prim the system after the car has sat for a long period of time. I have had a number of various makes and designs of carburetor engines (small block, slant six, strait six, big block, Mopar, Cadillac, and this Packard and especially on the cars with the carb mounted directly on top of the engine is the worst, I could look into the carb and just see the fuel peculating out of the jets as the heat from the engine boils the fuel and those engines always had flooded starts if they sat for 10 minutes after driving Bill

Thanks guys.
I was opting for the increased caster option. Naturally this is 1941 Packard and it can can be adjusted with only "X" amount of positive caster. I am hoping for 2 degrees positive. What are your alignment specs? With respect to the comment about the steering wheel not returning to neutral after a turn, is there any hint of this on your cars?

Power Steering Question

Hi all,
Yes I am a 1948 guy here crashing your 55-56 party however I have a question with respect to the power steering system on these models because I am planning on transplanting a 1955 PS system into the 1948. JD the guy from Max Meritt has a Monroe NOS PS actuator/control valve assembly and he recommends the Monrow because it is less complicated than the Bendix and that sounds good to me. I received this feedback from a guy online regarding the power steering unit. He had a 1949 that some previous owner had added PS but the current owner did not know what kind of unit it was and he even removed it. Have you also heard of these two issues? If so is is a function of the Monroe verses the Bendix unit? He said: "I think power steering is great for parking but I don't care for it when driving on windy roads, as I do near my house. The power steering of that era inhibits the steering wheel from returning to its center position so it almost seems like more work on windy roads. Also, a long-term Packard mechanic advised me that if it was not already leaking, within a few years it probably would be".

Howard,
Mark (DeluxCanuck) sent me a link to this thread where he added a fan shroud to his Packard (nice work BTW). Anyhoo, poking around the pictures I came upon a picture of your engine compartment. What is that bracket system you have added to the left side of the engine? It looks strong, complicated, and...exactly what I need. Bill

What is the Water Distribution Tube???
I looked in the water jacket after the water pump was removed and I saw a copper or brass "thing" in the water jacket. Is this what you are talking about? What does it do? How do I know if it is installed correctly??? As always...THANKS!!! Bill
