I have for sale a large lot of Ultramatic parts for any here who rebuilds them professionally or even for the hobbiest. Details with more photos are on my site. I prefer to sell as a lot for $650 plus shipping but am open to offers although I cannot ship immediately as my shop is a long way away from where I live.
Note that the photos do not show the many driving and driven clutches that are included or any other stray parts I may have. Some shown here may also have more than one included. I found a souvenir in my shop, which was from my 1952 Henney-Packard Nu-3-Way hearse, that I thought I would share.
One day I was working on the running engine, gunning it and making some under-hood adjustments when something (a little bird, perhaps, or a sprit in the car) told me to shut it off and remove the fan. This is what I found. Be safe and check yours! Attach file: 3D9121B9-4AB6-425E-AACD-25549E58EB97.jpeg (193.43 KB) 243F7E92-3B29-4ECA-B524-17066CE9B718.jpeg (234.40 KB)

1951 300 Race Car
|

Many years ago a San Jose, CA PAC member bought a 1951 Packard 300 which came with a parts car. He didn’t need the parts car so gave it to me.
Somewhere and somewhen, it had been a race car. It had the proper serial numbered 300 5-main engine fitted to an Ultramatic, both of which I still have. It was somehow fitted with dual exhaust but there was no manifold when I got it so not sure how that was done. It also had a 1954 Cavalier or Patrician roof neatly and cleanly grafted in so it must have been rolled as some point, destroying the original roof. The engine, which was painted blue, had solid lifters and the four head studs at the front right are noticeably longer. I wonder it perhaps it had had a supercharger mounted there. Not a great shot but the longer studs can be seen here. Are there any vintage photos of Packard race cars that might be this one? I would love to see it as it was!

It appears that the Gearstart parts that I have are from a junior model of some sort as the flange is smaller on the back than it is on a couple used driveshafts I have. They are from e1951 and 1952 models but I presume that they were the same for 1954.
Are any internal components different between junior and senior?

Have you tried Olson’s Gaskets? If they don’t have it, they can make it from a good pattern or outline of the part.

It does not appear to be damaged but admittedly it was a hurried photo as I’m on a deadline to get the second quarter of the shop prepared for insulation. I suspect the photo itself is to blame but, of course, I’m not sure.

Wonder of wonders but I believe this is the Gearstart shift linkage! When I moved my shop from California to Oregon 13 or 14 rears ago, I hadn’t worked on my cars for decades so didn’t notice it but now I noticed its differences right away. Quite a bit different geometry than the earlier type.

I have an early 1954 Patrician (the 731st) and a later 1954 Patrician (the 1350th) and I don't recall looking at the glove box to get it for my roster entries (and one glove box isn't even with the car) so both must have it on the spot welded tags.
I do see the code on the side of the glove box on the driveable Patrician but other has no dash. I have it but it's not accessible.

The paint and trim codes are also on the VN tag on the door jamb in 1954.
