So, to reiterate, the 1938 banjo style steering wheel was not available for the 1939 Packard models. Is that correct?

Thank you guys for this info, as you can see I have (I was told) a 1938 banjo steering wheel which I can see from the back will not fit my '39. A shame, since I really like the true banjo design over what I have now. Guess I'm stuck staying with my flat bars style.
Flack, I was going to put this on eBay, but if this works for your friend Paul, he can have it for what I paid for it, which was $165.

Banjo steering wheel
Home away from home
Home away from home

I recently was sold a banjo steering wheel (I like the look of them) that I would have restored except it was really for a 1938 Packard, the central base is different because the 1939 model houses part of the shifting mechanism which the '38 does not. I understand my '39 Super-8 shares it's steering wheel with the model 120 (and possibly the 6 cylinder model too?). My question is did Packard use a true banjo wheel as a choice for 1939 as well as the flat bars, which came with my car or did they do away with the true banjo style and only the flat bars was available?

Thanks,

Steve

See if there's play in the distributor shaft. That caused the same problem in my '54 Caribbean. Sent it out for a rebuild and never had the problem again. If your using Pertronix (like I am) the best most reliable way I found is to use a 6 volt Optima Red Top battery - it's a perfect marriage!

I had until last month a'54 Caribbean that has silicone brake fluid for 20 years and a '54 Pacific with silicone fluid for 16 years (still have the Pacific). Never had to do anything to them in all that time except to check fluid level. I shortly will be doing a major brake job on my 1939 Super-8 and of course will be going with silicone.
