I found a 5/8" 18 bolt and it threaded into the head perfectly, I need to dig through my boxes and see if any of my temperature gauges are complete with sending units

All great info!

I think you are correct - That makes perfect sense!

That's what happens when it takes over 10 years to get this far. the memory isn't what it use to be.

Thanks for the help

Trying to finish up the chassis and engine on my 42 with a 282 cu inch engine.
I bought a 3/8” NTP brass pipe plug to put in the side of the head on the left rear side. It is just a little to big to thread in.
Any idea what size is supposed to go in there and secondly what the hole is used for. I have heads with and without this hole.I search all my books and pictures but could not find anything.
Any ideas?
Thanks again, Jerry

42 chassis and complete 288 with transmission

Just can't stay away

Within the next month I will be starting the disassembly of my 42 120 convertible.

One of the first things I want to get rid of is the drive train and I was wondering if there would be any interest in the existing running 288 cu inch engine with an electomatic clutch assembly and transmission. Sometime in its life the original engine was replaced with a 288.

Once the body work is completed and the floors replaced I will move the body over to the restored frame and at that time I will have a rolling 42' 120 convertible chassis for sale

If you have an interest in either let me know.

As I progress on the restoration I will slowly start to sell off some of the extra parts I have accumulated over the years.
Some of the items are a set of 42 front side grills, a set of rear fenders, front and back senior bumpers, complete set of seats and seat frames and more.

Thanks, Jerry

Curious as to all of your thoughts about adding an inline electric fuel pump. I am rebuilding my 42 from the ground up and I was thinking of putting one inline near the rear wheel. I’m limited on space as it is a convertible and all the top vacuum lines take up space under the running board.

Please let me know your thoughts on if it is needed or a waste of time
Thanks

Thank you for the information, I as going from info I received from another Packard member. It's an easy fix to take it off and sandblast the green off and repaint it. I used spray graphite on the exhaust manifold and that leaves a very even finish that looks like bare cast iron and it protects the bare metal.

Perfect, I held the heat shield above the fuel pump and the bolt holes line up perfectly!

Thanks again
