Re: Six exhaust and intake manifold

I also have a '39 Six and have recently gone through the motor. The Intake and exhaust manifold does use a gasket. I had to have mine surfaced but had a difficult time finding a machine shop to do that, I have a milling machine so I set it up and fly cut the surfaces. In my case, I milled the exhaust and intake seperatley as the exhaust seemed to be pretty far off. When I went to reinstall the manifolds, I left the bottom bolts loose that hold the intake and exhaust together just below the carburetor. Once the manifolds were tight to the cylinder block, I tightened the bolts that are in the center, holding the two manifolds together. It worked perfectly and there are no leaks.

I'm at the point that I need to have my door handles rechromed, my question is, how do you take them apart. Do the round parts need to be removed so the chrome shop can do their magic?

While at the Salado Texas Packard meet I had taken some photo's of a '39 all original, 26,000 mile, 110 4dr. I looked back at them and you can clearly see that it does not have any outside weather strips on the windows so I suppose that would answer my question. I also think that I am going to add some to the outside, it just seems like there should be something there. Thanks for everyone looking.

Window weather strips

Just can't stay away

Hi all, I just about have my car out of the paint shop and I am gathering all the interior parts. I seem to have run into a question. The car is a '39 110 4dr, the question is... were there horizontal weather strips on both the inside of the window reveal molding and the inside of the actual door. The ones that were factory stapled to the inside of the window reveal were all there but I can't find any trace that there were ever horizontal weather strips on the outside of the windows. I've looked back through all of my parts and don't find anything so, some further information will be appreciated.

My experience was that I tried the Rhino liner method, sanded on it forever to get it smooth and then sand blasted it off. It just never looked right at all. I suppose it makes a difference as to the newness of your car, a more all original car that doesn't have new paint that was a darker color might look ok but you have to sand the finish of the Rhino a lot. I ended up sending them off and having them revulcanized, it cost a lot more but was worth every penny.

I have a '39 110 that I installed the Pretronix unit on and it has been the best thing I've done to help with the starting. I did also install an inline voltage stabilizer, $8.00, because electronic units are very picky about consistent voltage and the range of the voltage, generators are not good at putting out consistent volts and that will fry the ign. unit. I highly recommend the system.

If your motor is running OK now but just has the exhaust leak then it would certainly be worth a try to tap and plug the holes. You could easily fix this later on if you have the manifold off the car by making some press in bushings.

I had a similar problem on my '39 6cyl, the shaft and plate were frozen in the closed position and the motor wouldn't run well as it warmed up. I pulled it all out while I had the manifold off, taped the holes for some 3/8 pipe plugs and screwed them in. I cut a piece of 1/16th copper plate to seal off the bottom of the intake side and all is working well.

It looks like my car that is Packard Blue, years of washing and polishing makes them seem a little lighter but I would say Packard Blue.
