Blogger "Disaffected Musings" recalls the sad end of the Detroit-built Packards:

On my own blog, I post about a rare 1941 Graham Hollywood in a Studebaker dealer's shop:

For "Gear Head Tuesday" we re-blog Salena Zito's fine story about finding America at a back woods gas station. We tie Packard into it with the Henry Joy-Alvan Macauley support for the building of the Lincoln Highway. (Part of Zito's backwoods route was on the Lincoln Highway.)

<i>"For someone who could probably have wrangled any car it is curious he opted for a "lesser" model. I would have thought a Custom Eight would have been more fitting his lifestyle or could it be the choice of the Super was more to show he was still one of the people."</i>

Indeed! At the original post, there is a photo of him walking in front of the Packard during a parade on a state visit. No barricades, either.

It occurred to me that availability (or lack thereof) of the Custom Super Eight Victoria might have been a reason behind the selection of the Super Eight.

In later years, he had three Mercedes 600s in his "stable".

"Owen_Dyneto" supplied us with more photos of Tito's Packard. Also, "Disaffected Musings" snapped shots of Packards at Hershey this past weekend.

<i>"The tires look to be solid rubber- is that right?</i>

Yes - that is correct.

Dave reports that the "Armstrong" power steering is the cause of a new hemorrhoid every quarter turn of the steering wheel.

<i>"Wasn't the original owner Tito Puente? I don't think communists had new cars."</i>

FTA:https://56packardman.com/2019/05/14/gear-head-tuesday-josip-titos-packard/

Joe - Tito was one of many Communists that had (ahem) Capitalist taste in cars.
Besides the Packard, which he kept, other cars in his "stable" included 3 Mercedes 600 Limousines. Tito's lavish lifestyle caused no small amount of turmoil and dissidents were quickly - and usually brutally - jailed.

With hat tips to Sasha Hadzic in Serbia and "Packard Truck Dave":
https://56packardman.com/2019/05/14/gear-head-tuesday-josip-titos-packard/

The '48 Packard Super Eight Victoria once owned by Yugoslav Communist dictator Josip Broz "Tito" was found and restored.
