The AC engineer who designed this lock must be laughing his but off in heaven now. The GM guys have the same problem. spend 5 hours trying to remove a glove box door lock. The Chevy glove box door lock come out by turning the key to the 11 o'clock position, then the lock come out and then the sliding latch pulls out. That doesn't work on a Packard lock unfortunately, but I'll keep looking.

Corrosion doesn't seem to be a problem; unlike some other cars I have picked up over the years. The cap is all one housing and I would destroy it to cut it off. I've tried Jewlers magnifiers on it and can't see anything that would help. (If superman was around Xray vision would help a lot). It looks like the lock cylinder needs to come out to let the lever that moves sideways to clear the back of the cylinder. The locksmith who has worked on many antique car locks can't figure it out either. Does anyone know who made the Packard glove box locks in the mid 30s maybe there may be information on other similar designs they made.

Thanks, but no sucess. I looked at the instructions for the 1937 door lock. Those worked great when I removed my 1941 door locks. The door lock on the glove box is a totally different animal. There is also a note at the bottom of the 1937 handle instructions that it won't work on the glove box lock (probably because there's no hole to stick pin into).
I tried (I think) every combination of pulling the spring up or down and locked and unlocked partially locked etc. Didn't work.
Somebody must have been able to remove them!
Any other ideas?

After trying many different combinations with picks and key positions, I took the glovebox door to a lock shop who does work for the Packard Museum in Dayton Ohio.
After trying different things with the lock, they couldn't get it out of the glove box door either.
Anyone got any ideas who might know how it comes out?

The nut will not go past the latch mechanism. I have tried different combinations of lifting springs pushing in springs and also locked or unlocked the latch with the key, and been unsuccessful. I'll try to download pictures tomorrow. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

I was trying to remove the lock from the glove box door, but it looks like the sliding latch needs to be removed before the nut will pass over the lock. Does anyone know how this lock is removed from the glove box door? Thanks

I was trying to find out what the original seat upholstery stitching pattern was for a senior 1936 club coupe. I looked at the pictures posted online and some I have seen at concourse, and many have different pattern on the seats.
Does anyone know if there was a stock Packard seat pattern for 1936 senior cars or was the pattern ordered by the customer? Thanks for any help you can give me.
