Thanks for all the carb info everyone!

Do any of you guys use the "Blaster Graphite Dry Lube" when installing gaskets? I am thinking about using this on the new exhaust manifold and carb gaskets.

Have any of you guys used these new style needle and seat that come in the Daytona rebuild kit? Or should I reuse the original?

I wonder why the accelerator pump wasnt working. There is no leather on there!!!

Great work on your Packard Tom! I need to stay away from this website...LOL... I have barely even started working on my own and I already have the wants for 3 different models! Is your wood grain dash a refurbished original?

Damn I should have just done that... Did you just grind the rest of the lip off and pressure fit a piece of pipe in the hole? Or did you do like HH56 said and grind out a recess for the pipe to slide up to?

Packardfan, if it was my car I would not bother about replacing the heat control valve. San Diego weather should not cause a problem with it missing. Just my opinion.

Ya I was thinking the same but since I have to install something new in there that has a good lip on it I thought I might as well just put in a brand new one for $150. Who knows how brittle the lip on the used one is.I was going to just buy the used one and cut the flapper out.

Just got off the phone with Max Merrit. I can get a NOS Exhaust Control Valve for $150. These are not rebuilt I was mistaken, the webstore wrongly lists core charge. I think I an going to go this route, the one from PSW is 1/2 the price but the time that would be invested in cleaning it up and it possibly not having much life left in it I think is worth it since it is in a pain in the butt spot to get to.

Also talked to Kanter, they do not have any more in stock.

Alright so I finally got the heat riser off, kept spraying and waiting with the PB and it finally loosened up enough on the tail pipe to pop off. Looks like the lip that should slip into the exaust manifold is pretty much gone.

I have 4 options...

1. Buy a new one from Kanter..$165.00

2. Get a rebuilt one from Max Merrit if they have any instock. They had one online Sunday but now it is not showing, I take it since there is a core charge what they offer is rebuilt?

3. I contacted PSW Packard Parts. They have a used one I can get for $75 that I will need to clean up. If I go this route what parts should I order to rebuild?

4. Install a spacer that eliminates the valve. Is there a spacer out there that has a lip on one side that slips into manifold and flat on one side that accepts exhaust flange? Pros and cons to this approach?

Any recomendations of what route? Thanks guys!

Hey Paul, I have a 55' and I plan on refilling my Ultramatic with "original" B&M Trick Shift. After much research that's what I found to be best from other people's experience..... On a side note you have 4 of the same threads, you should delete all of then except for this one. Once somebody replies to a thread you can't delete it, you will need a administrator to do it for you.

did the hardware also come out clean? Just curious!

Hello, yes it did. It is a pain the the butt to get the hardware out though. I ended up moving it all to one corner and fished it all out with a magnet. I tried sliding the tank back and forth until they all fell out but I was already tired from shaking the crap out of it!
