David,
Mine doesn't have anything nor does the trunk floor I bought from Ross. Neither one shows any indication of ever having a plug.

David,
I bought the carpet from the fellow in Ohio. Perfect match as far as cut and dimensions but definitely wrong material. Jim and PI, I would further suggest while digitally archiving the dis-assembly that you backup all image files on at least one external hard drive in case of a catastrophic failure to a computer hard drive or corrupted card. Also shoot RAW and do a save as to JPG. If you start as a JPG capture it degrades on repeated openings. If you have to shoot JPG, go for the highest offered resolution. Details will come in handy if you have to start enlarging to see what you did and need to do. A couple of images of my floor material.

Thank you very much. I am hoping to get started on the car this coming year. Still in the garage of the woman I bought it from. I need to get a new roof on my barn before I move the car and rebuild the barn doors. I will change out coolant and start soaking the cylinders, all nuts and bolts with ATF/acetone this winter.
Car is complete and original with 54,000 miles. Garaged since 1980. Had rust bodywork and a paint job sometime ago.I am the third owner. Look forward to following your progress on yours. Regards,

Illiterati,
I own a 53 Derham Formal that is unrestored. It is black X code for body paint and the 801 interior. A couple of images below. My goatskin is not in good shape either except on the door trim. It will be an interesting learning experience when I get to redoing the interior.

Welcome to PackardInfo. Howard is correct, the pattern is called goatskin and came in three interior colors. We did the Material Swatch Project a couple of years ago and is archived here. These interior codes I believe ran 1951-1954. The 801 is a dark brown goatskin, the 802 a dark green, and the 803 is a dark blue. Here are the wool broadcloth fabric combos that go with them:
801-dark brown broadcloth combined with tan broadcloth 802-dark green broadcloth combined with light green broadcloth 803-blue broadcloth combined with gray broadcloth 804-gray broadcloth 805-blue broadcloth 807-dark brown broadcloth The AF would be Dresden Gray Metallic

Howdy Gear-Rat,
You will want to be using raw organic linseed oil. It is available from Viking Sales in Victor,NY. The raw is easier to use than the boiled as it hasn't been "cooked down"(for want of a better explanation)and is easier to apply with spray gun like Hank did. I am sure Hank can fill you in on his techniques and findings. The Allback raw organic linseed oil is the pure quill, no additives of any sort. But be very careful of rags you have used with the linseed oil, put in bucket of water. Possibility of spontaneous combustion. Please feel free to PM me if you need other info or contact info for Viking.
