1941 120 Rear Brake Problem
#31

Eugene Wescott
Greetings All,

I've been having some problems with the RR brake shoes failing to release when I let off the brake pedal. To date, I've replaced the master cylinder, wheel cylinders and brake lines. The brake shoes are in good shape so I did not have them relined.

When I tested the rear brakes, I can move the wheel in the forward direction, but it will lock up if I try to make it go backward. I noticed that the pins that go into the wheel cylinder seem to be getting a lot of resistance when I attached the springs to the point at the center top.

Is it possible that there is too much fluid in the cylinder causing the shoe not to come back to the resting position? I updated to the DOT 5 silicone fluid.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Gene

Does anyone know of a business that restores the manifolds with the porcelin/ceramic coatings. I remember seeing one several years back but can't remember the name.

Greetings All,

Is there anyone reproducing the intake/exhaust manifolds as mine has some cracks and another tab ready to break off? Got a price today to have it repaired but found it to be quite high and no guarantee that it won't crack during the welding process.

Thanks

Greetings,

Does anyone know where to find the spec on the correct inches/mercury that this engine should have? I believe the later model years ran between 1-7-21, but mine seems to be around 13-15, is this normal?

Thanks

Thanks for the info,

I do have a small crack in one of the threaded fittings abd sin-me of the threads have broken away. Where did you get the fuel pump as Great Plains Packards has an AC fuel pump for sale. Not sure what the psi is on that one.

One other thought I had is if the condenser is not good and it doesn't have enough voltage stored to fire the plugs making it feel like it's running out of gas.

Thanks

Mike,

Who did you get the fuel pump and regulator from? I've also been working with Dave on a carb for mine. It has been through the R&D process and am awaiting a new float.

Does your carb have the different needle valves to accomodate the fuel pump?

Thanks

Thanks for the info, I'll take the tank apart to see what's happening as I had replaced the float springs some years back.

Greetings All,

Has anyone had any experience with adding a low pressure fuel pump to assist or replace the vacuum tank? I think my vacuum may be starting to fail.

Thanks

Compression was good in all cylinders 70-80 psi. Will flush system again, but will need to find the oxalic acid locally.

Thanks
