Early Packard drivetrains are very robust and that car is very restorable. Sad it wasn't stored properly. It must have been awesome when they put it there.

Below is an 840 that was pulled out of a New Jersey swamp around 1960 and kept the original drivetrain. That was in the days before they were making fakes. That's why I like the early cars. They never die if you take care of them.

As I used to tell people when they complained - The car cost twice the price of a new home when new.

Then I got tired of hearing about it so stopped working on that stuff. In engineering there is big money at stake and working there I didn't have to put up with rich people and their non-sense. The way to make restorations livable is to work with customers who want to enjoy spending money. Some of them got it by chiseling everybody in sight and they carry that with them and beat up on the help. Imagine going into Tiffany at Columbus Circle and complaining about the price of their merchandise. Or complaining about the rent at 851 Fifth Avenue. I knew one guy who got sued over the price of restoring a set of Duesenberg wheels. He shut down and moved on.

I'm sure you can make the Model A ones function with some modification, but along the way someone will spot it the same way as having the wrong voltage regulator or starter. It's up to the owner.

Those road lights apparently are late model and begs the question - has that thing been converted to 12 volts?

Non-authentic lights always can be thrown in the garbage but drilling holes in that cross bar is indicative an amateur work.

The headlight lenses are correct. The system uses a right hand dipping switch so the lenses are different.

The driving lights were a dealer installed accessory and any brand could have been sold, but those are drilled through the cross bar which I don't like.

I am not an expert, but the silicone method is what I was thinking when I saw this. Make a silicone master inside a plastic foundation, fill the master with slow curing epoxy resin, use the resin master to make a clay/plaster casting inside a wooden foundation.

I'm not being critical, but not every engine launch had problems. The 49 Caddy and 51 Chrysler Hemi success killed Packard the antique Chrysler transmission notwithstanding. The only way Packard could have survived would have been if the 55 product launch was thoroughly tested and trouble free.

All of those sand blasted parts need to be painted or plated. I did a basket case where they sand blasted everything in sight and the car was on pallets. Everything was subject to rust. All of the bits and pieces were laid out on boards and then barrel plated and laid out again.

Each series had different numbers so there must be a part number somewhere. Look inside the hub maybe that is where they hid them.

The best straight run I know of is the Will Rogers Turnpike between Oklahoma City and Tulsa. 150 miles in a straight line.

The Indian Nation Turnpike is another good run. Travel east on I-40 from Oklahoma City for 100 miles and turn right.

I'm sure there are others further west, but both of these should be sufficient to blow the Packard motors if you beat on them.
