Re: General restoration: oxidation removal from wood grained surfaces

Use very fine steel wool, grade 000 or 0000. The rust is about the same shade as the wood graining. Then coat lightly with gloss urethane. Than let the paint fully cure before waxing

I checked with Fred Kanter on question and this was his reply:

We've only seen two or three juniors with other than tan striped cloth, we owned it for 15 years.
One was all original inside with green striped wool cloth and the drivers seat back was worn out. I don't recall where we got a piece to reupholster that portion but it was old original material not new reproduction. The others were blue striped material and all original inside.

Re: "Concourse" vs. "Concours"

Concours d'Elegance is a French term.. Concours in English means contest...d'Elegance means "of beauty or elegance". Thus it means beauty contest (for cars).

As a side note judging was only on the beauty of the cars, not the presence or absence of blades of grass in the tire treads or creases in the leather. Leave it to Americans to bring things to the ridiculous with fist fights erupting at Pebble Beach on occasion

Re: Lower radiator hose collapse

Packard made the lower "hose" in 3 pieces is because they needed more strength in the middle section to keep it from collapsing. Yes, there are/were hoses that would replace it in dimension but just as Packard found they will collapse.

Years ago we took the metal "J" piece to a muffler shop and they explained that the bend radius was too small for their machines.

We do offer the single rubber hose design as referenced in this post as well the hose pieces if a customer is still using the steel pipe. We do offer the steel portion but it is an inquire part as we have limit stock.

Please feel free to call our Packard Department for further information and pricing.

Re: 120 Valve guides

Valve guides are put in from the top with a valve guide driver, merely a punch with 2 diameters. To remove such guides you drive them down close to the lifter and the strike them with a ball peen hammer to break them off. Then drive the rest of it down (and out)
