John lost his supplier and no longer has the 356 belts. Several have indicated NAPA can match it.

Need to remove the generator on our 1940 160. I have removed one on our 47 356 as well as our 48 327.Never had a problem. I just cannot get to the front bolt on this one. Considering removing the splash pan on that side so I can see the bolt from underneath. Is that the solution? Also, looks like I should replace the belt. Anyone have a source for that wide belt?

During a short cruise this week in our 55 Custom Clipper, the rear end was low when we stated. When it adjusted, it went too high and would not come back down. Checked the in line fuse as well as the one in the fuse block and both appear fine. Installed n.o.s. spare brake light switch but did not help. tail lights work and turn signals work. may install another switch to make sure but what else?

1947 Custom grease fittings

for the grease fittings on a 47 Custom. I need to replace a couple that should have had an angle on the head as where they were installed by someone you cannot get the tip of the grease gun attached because of clearance. In another case, the fitting on one of the kingpins is not even there. I checked with one of the major Packard suppliers and they could not help. I removed one and took it to O' Reilly's parts store and they could not match it. The part you pout the wrench to is 5/16. But don't know the size of the thread part. Help appreciated.

What is the correct size for the zerk grease fittings on a 47 Custom. Would they be the same for a 48 model?

The one reply so far does not help me with my concern for our 55 Custom 12 volt positive gr with the Delco electrical system. I am concerned because the previous unit overcharged and destroyed a battery. The trip I described was also made by our 48 six volt and that VR was cool to the touch. Granted, it is on the firewall and much further away from heat sources than the one on our 55. ( which is right next to the radiator). Someone please check their vr after a trip. I may just be worrying about nothing as the temp that day was in the 80's.

I have noticed twice following an hourlong drive at highway speeds that my v.r Is pretty hot to the touch. Shorter trips okay. I checked and it is functioning at about 12.4. Volts. I burned up a battery last year when the previous one failed and over charged it.' Is it normal to be pretty warm to the touch? We are in South Texas and weather was in high 80's.

1940 160 Club Sedan. The rear grease seal on driver's side is leaking. Who has them and who has the best price The other side completely dry, do they come in pairs or can you buy just what you need?

For several months, I have detected a loud squeak in the front of the vehicle on driver's side. I spent yesterday morning greasing all fittings but still makes the noise. Pushing up and down on the bumper does not generate the noise. I hate to call it a squeak as it is louder and lower tone than most squeaks incurred in my experience with old Packards. The front end was rebuilt including king pins about 15 years ago. Probably has less than 5k on that job. The odometer which I think is accurate, shows 78k. I have had it since 1983 and this is a new noise. I took it for a spin this morning to see if grease job helped. I did determine it is barely audible unless the steering wheel is turning ever so slightly. Louder when turning the corner. Bumper, fog lights etc. seem to be fastened tight. What could it be? WOndering if the steering box needs lubrication. I have not ever needed to deal with that on one of our cars so how and what do you use etc. I have added hydraulic jack oil to the knee action shocks though they were not really low. They were rebuilt from Apple when the front end was done. Thanks, Tommy
