Good afternoon...We drive Miss Prudence, our 49 every week...We smile...and people wave and occasionally honk (in a nice way) at Miss Prudence. Ernie in Arizona

Good Evening...We also purchased springs from Eaton Detroit Spring...Fred at Max Merritt, sent us over to them. The springs were just as quoted and fit 'Miss Prudence', our 1949 Deluxe perfectly...The order was accomplished over the phone...Ernie in Arizona

Good afternoon...There are Marine Epoxy products that are designed to work under water that would perhaps work well for your problem. Once the area is cleaned with a fine wire brush on a drill...and perhaps you drain the rear end to below the leak. Clean and dry...but the Marine Epoxy will not mind if the leak is weeping a small amount. May the Packard Gods with you! Ernie in Arizona

Good Morning and welcome to the tribe! I would consider dropping the oil pan and checking to see if it and the oil pump are clean...often they are dirty and the clogged pump will do damage to the engine. It the pump is dirty, then please consider doing the same with the valve chamber. Often on a start up after a long sleep what ever is in the fuel tank and gas lines needs to be cleaned out prior to using that portion of the fuel system...In the little shop I spend my Fridays in, we always use a separate two gallon tank connected to the carburetor for start ups....Beautiful Packard...Others will have many more suggestions...Ernie in Arizona

Just a point to consider. Our 49 drove us nuts until we figured out that we needed a new head gasket. It did not present in the normal manner. When all else had not solved the problem, we pulled the head and there was the problem. These old straight eights like their heads torqued once a year and act out when they don’t receive attention! I wonder if a cardboard mailing tube like is used for blueprints or artwork that is not framed...Figure an art supply house or a framing shop...Ernie in Arizona

Good Morning...I'll bet the car has had an engine change along the way. Most likely the six wore out and an eight was availablle and made a nicer driving car. Ernie in Arizona

Good Evening...That's a nice looking Packard...I actually like the colors. Perhaps if I were only for original...then I would want to argue about the price...If my wife liked the color, then I'd purchase the car and domestic tranquility would be preserved! Ernie in Arizona
