I'm with the community as long as we talk about the mentioned 10% accompanied by terms like "noticeable". If the test drive requires 90% of engine power nothing will happen.

Perhaps a tightening and sealing effect of a warm cylinder head (expansion) and "lifted" spark plugs?
All the power (and fuel / air mixture) which leaves the engine through the spark plug holes is absent to turn the crankshaft.

Who's on First?
The older we are the less important When we go through the Asian Who's Hu the man on First should probably be Mr. Hu Jintao. He was sweet fifteen when the pic below was taken. It shows Mao (one of the predecessor of Hu, who was on First until age 83) and Mr. Klim Voroshilov (who was last time on First until age 88...) at the begin of Sino-Soviet split. "...Since 1956, the countries had (secretly) been diverging ideologically, and, beginning in 1961, the Chinese Communists formally denounced "The Revisionist Traitor Group of Soviet Leadership." In the 1960s, this intellectual divergence became critical, continuing until the late 1980s -- yet was rendered moot with the USSR's collapse in 1991. Their doctrinal divergence owed as much to Chinese and Soviet national interests, as with the r?gimes' interpretative Marxist ideologies..." [wikipedia] Attach file: (36.92 KB) (20.17 KB)

The older we are the less important all the names. Who was Mr. U Nu? Sorry, Mr. who?
Ok, there was a time in our history he was at least important enough to be the cover man of the Time magazine in August 1954. But that is more than half a century ago ... Don't know if I'm the last man on earth who is interested in reading the old stories but, however, today I would like to bear in remembrance that once the Soviet government presented two ZIS cars to the Prime Minister of Burma U Nu. The clutch
A schematic explanation of the collaboration of clutch parts. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/GRDWO5qo_iI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Another video practical explaining how a clutch works. It additional shows the aligning mandrel, a special tool to center a clutch disc and exemplifies the probably irratating fact that the directional movement (the axial displacement) of a clutch disc works against the force action. To "press the clutch down" is everyday language and means to press the clutch pedal down but to depress (to disengage) the clutch disc. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/6BaECAbapRg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

John, as far as I see it is a common car without armoring. I think Howard (HH56) is correct in saying that the sheet metal was overproportioned in consequence of an underdeveloped technology along the lines of "a lot helps a lot".

I would like to construct a new hypothesis. There was one moment in time when the White House including several congressmen tried to control the fate of the nation from the hood of a Soviet car.
Do we see the moment of coining the term "nationhood"? [picture source: Time Inc.] Attach file: (14.78 KB)

Kev, another interesting phenomenon is a time delay of around 5 seconds within the sorting algorithm for the "Recent Forum Topics".
