David, I said I wasn't sure as I've never owned a Cavalier. I know it is not on either of my Patricians! I was hoping that someone would tell me one way or the other so thank you for that.

This happens over the years but it also seemed that Packard often pulled whichever brand they had available. Also, check the tags on the components to see if they are even the proper ones for any Packard or Clipper. Other makes and models of parts may fit but not be the ones that go to the car.

One other thing you could do is to look at the engine number to see if it's the same as the number on the VIN plate on the door jamb. The engine number is stamped on top of the block slightly behind the thermostat housing. It is on a flat boss facing straight up that may have collected dirt and grime over the years so might require some wire brushing to read it. If different, it will tell you that the entire engine had been replaced and the first four digits will tell you which engine it is.

That is an aftermarket A/C system in the 1954, not factory. If stock it would have had the 3-knob control panel above the steering column and fresh air scoops on the top of the rear fenders adjacent to the parcel shelf. The A/C unit itself was in the trunk.

Nice looking Cavalier but so many faults that it would cost quite a bit to get it back to stock. For example, the head studs are about an inch too long, have the wrong nuts (they appear to be the generic hardware store variety rather than the thicker 3/4" hex type required) and no thick washers underneath. The generator was relocated from below the power steering pump to the upper right side and wiring seems funky where visible.

I'm not sure if the Packard script should be on the trunk lid either but I'm not sure about that. First thought was that it was a 1955 lid.

The exact details will, of course, be different depending whether stock or aftermarket but essentially the same.

Yes, the 1941 Henney wheels aren't even close! But shooting from the hip or not, the answer was good.

The site experienced a technical problem on the server starting around 12:15 AM this morning and continued to about 4:30 PM this afternoon. It had a brief glitch a moment ago but otherwise seems to be running smoothly! Thank you BigKev for jumping on the problem and getting it fixed. Much appreciated!

Which parts specifically are you looking for? The solenoid is available as reproduction in 6v and 12v and I see NOS or good used R11 parts on eBay from time to time. I may have a few new or good used parts too but as my shop is 550 miles away, I can't be sure until I am next there.

That's a good plan! I have an inexpensive vacuum test set that also can check pressure, such as fuel pump, which I bought on Amazon.com some years ago. It paid for itself very quickly!

The best test is to see if it moves under vacuum and doesn't leak down quickly which can probably be ascertained by using a simple vacuum tester tool. If there was a pinhole or very tiny crack, then it would return quickly but if it doesn't, then it's fine. Some of it is also to do with how the distributor was stored for all these decades and this one was always kept indoors rather than in the boot of a car!

P.S., I've bought parts from Hagen's and they offer very fast shipping and good quality. Also, Puyallap is right next to Sumner where I stored and worked on my 1941 Henney-Packard for years!

Looks like an interesting movie and I managed a screen capture of the 1940 Packard. Not sure how I did it as it was there for only a second!
