Re: Tighten 115-C connecting rod bolts dry or oiled?

Double check the rod bolt torque to the Packard specifications! I once torqued mine to a 1956 Motor's Manual but the postwar sixes used larger bolts than prewar so using the specified torque on my smaller bolts, they stretched and had to be replaced.

No but once had some "old timers" (younger than I am now) comment that they remember the old Nashes as my 1940 110 temporarily had a set of Nash hubcaps!

Of course, someone also asked once if my 1964 Ghia-Imperial limousine was a hearse. I said, "yes, I prop the body up on the back seat!"

Any good automotive machine shop can regrind the radius but needs to be sure not to grind through the case hardening. If that happens, then they definitely must be replaced but otherwise can easily be reworked.

You need a box wrench or sometimes an open end wrench to remove the distributor. It don't recall it ever being difficult to remove.

For the vacuum gauge, if you have an old car, this is the type of tool that you should buy to always have handy for when adjustments are needed again. The one I have from Amazon is in its own case and can also check fuel pressure and has a vacuum pump that is great for performing different types of tests on the vacuum system for the Packards I own and for my '60s cars. It was not expensive and well worth it.

Looking at the photos posted with the original question, the wood is clearly still there around the windows so the lower doors were likely reskinnned rather than replaced with sedan doors.

Not of confuse the issue but the lifter body where it contacts the cam is not flat. It is supposed to have a slight radius.

As for tappet vs lifter, there was the lifter body and the hydraulic insert but I have not checked the parts book too see exactly the terminology used by Packard.

Gas Tank Identification

The tank with the short filler and vent is from a 1951 senior Henney-Packard but can anyone identify the other tank? It is identical in every way other than having a longer filler and vent.

Also, the senders appear interchangeable (both have 6-screw mounting on the same bolt circle) but are different in appearance. Are they simply made by different manufacturers or do they function differently? I know, the photo is not much to go on but I thought someone might recognize them by external appearance.

I did a double-take on the nicely panted nails! On lacquer, I'm surprised that it doesn't melt or at least craze the plastic! It must either be a tough plastic of else lacquer is less caustic than I remember.

In any event, excellent work and the emblem looks great. You could probably offer a service!

Gorgeous Packard and one of my favorite years and models! I hope it will find a good home where someone can cherish it as Ole did.
