Re: 1948 288 coil

A coil doesn't care whether Autolite or Delco so on these 6v cars, as long as there are no special attached brackets, they are the same.

Your car hasn't really been sitting long enough to need that. It's the kind of thing done when an engine has been sitting for years, not months!

I can't answer from actual experience but the Eight, being a longer and somewhat heavier car, either has larger diameter drums or perhaps drums for wider shoes.

I don't know about interchange but I might have a couple 1940 110 drums laying around if you need them.

I'm not sure if I can afford to go this route but what is a good place that can rebuild and restore the chassis if shipped to them by itself?

I'm probably jumping the gun by quite a bit but SMS had a really good sale which is now over but on the last day I was able to take advantage of it by ordering a full interior for the Clipper Custom. I put down a deposit only so far as they need the original in order to proceed and based on the fabric samples that they sent it will be nice!

A question though. I'm adding power windows and they said that they are able to accommodate that too but on the rear door panels, are the power window switches in the same place as the cranks and on the fronts, are they in the same place in the steel panel as the cranks?

Synthetic fluid also uses the DOT 3 and DOT 4 designations so the answer is to use a standard non-synthetic fluid unless it's been converted to synthetic.

It's a nice looking Packard that I would love to have even in spite all the cosmetic things wrong. Another - and I'm not sure about this - is that the trim below the rear side windows is reversed with the left on the right and the right on the left. However, all these little things makes one wonder what else is wrong that is mechanical and/or otherwise hidden from view.

Do you have any photos from several angles of the steel lines for the oil filter that you can post? I would love to see them to be sure that my own are the proper ones.

Joe, you're right I didn't take into account the '39 type licensed holder that was used on 1940 models with the trunk rack. Packard's handles were made by a third party vendor and were often functionally the same between makes of cars that used the same vendor (differing in design but not functionality) so appears that one of those was fitted.
