Did you get the OD to work?

I have a 47 Packard with non working OD. As I look at the schemtic-it appears that all is needed to check it out is to ground terminal 5(Car off). I have been told by the previous owner the problem is in the OD unit. By grounding #5 it takes out the speed switch. Thus if it does not pull in it is either bad connections or bad pull in solenoid?

I have not had to do this yet. I purchased a generic coil with a mounting plate. I plan to run a black wire beside the coil to connect to the armored wire from the ignition switch.

It will be difficult to detect but not completely hidden.

$100-300 is too much for a coil and a crap shoot with NOS parts.

Have you tried cleaning it with furniture cleaner and then put a fresh coat of polyurtheane?

Does anyone have a reasonable priced source for this type of coil? The last few I have seen were going for $120-375. I have purchased a generic coil and plan on running a wire down the side to attach to the armored wire.

Back to the basic question-did you get the clock working?

There is a fuse inline with the clock-check it. Check if you have voltage at that point. The voltage comes from the body electric point on the wiring diagram. Check to see if you have voltage there. You can wire the clock up across the battery to see if it works-remember + is ground. I had to clean the contacts several times before I got it work consistently.

The main point is that you do not have to remove the hands of the clock. The Borg clock is a unique design incorporating the old mechanical style with a electrial winding mechanisam. If necessary I will take another look at the clock to determine how to I got the back cover off.
