Regarding the underseat heater on the 5699s (convertibles), the factory build slips indicate that only 3, #s 1096, 1119 and 1230 were so equipped.

If you need the hydraulic lifter gauge block to set the clearances, let me know. I manufactured and sold these for many years for the 288/327/359 engines. More recently I have been offering them on loan rather than purchase (and unfortunately I must say that many of folks who borrowed one failed to ever return it). I still have a few remaining and would be willing to again loan one out, hoping this time for a different outcome.

Nothing unusual to note about theft-proof C00482.

No, a 1935-36 Super 8 engine will not fit in a 1939 Super 8. It's an entirely different engine, 3-1/2" bore versus 3-3/16 bore just one of many differences.

Packard built aircraft engines.
I strongly recommend Robert Neal's "Master Motor Builders" as an excellent text on the subject.

Eight and Super 8 use the same metal tire covers, only the Twelve is different. And 1934 covers are unique to just that single year.

Keep in mind that interference from carpet and other underlayers becomes more of a potential problem, the greater the pedal free play. With pedal free play adjusted to an inch or so, it shouldn't be necessary for the clutch pedal to even reach the carpet before fully releasing the clutch.

Are you sure the clutch is fully disengaging when the pedal is depressed? What's the pedal free play? And yes, using a heavier viscosity gear oil might be helpful but it may well just be masking a more fundamental issue. Proper gear oil viscosities are given in the owner's manual, you'll want a GL1 type.
