The studs in the timing cover were rotted out from the back and helicoils wouldn't work as there was not enough metal left.

I found some aluminum adapters for shift knobs and drilled and tapped the holes to fit the OD threads of the adapters.

Coated the threads with JB weld and used a drill jig to make sure they were straight.

Problem solved.

Riki,

Long way to go before the valves.

Pistons next then silencers then valves

Riki,

Here is that crank nose. It just has the timing gear on at this point.

Here are the rest of the parts that go on the front of the crank. From the right to left. Seal assembly with cork seal, spacer, harmonic balancer, then pulley and nut. The aluminum under the pully is just to hold it up.

Crank is in and the timing chain was replaced. Lots of lineup marks, the cam drive, the timing gear to cam flange (about 2 o'clock on the large gear) and the crank gear (6 o'clock) to cam timing gear(noon). Once those are aligned, checked to make sure #1 crank journal was at TDC (top of travel), and the cam lobes were pointing down (closed).

5 Denman 7.50 x 17 whitewalls

I have 5 Denman tires. 4 are new and 1 is used. The used one is on the left in the first picture.

These tires in BF Goodrich are $492 from Coker and are out of stock.

The used tire has some slight scuffing on the whitewall, it is on the right in the second picture.

$1500 for the 5 plus freight which is somewhere around $25-30 a tire if memory serves me.

PCKRD320. Thanks for the input. My car is a very early '38 and has an Owen Dyneto (OD) starter. I guess it was a holdover from '37.
