Hmmmm....
I guess I failed to mention the year of my Clipper. It's a 47 and the battery tray and hold down are about 7" wide and almost 24" long. So a group 2 would take some cobbling and if I were going to do that and make any old battery fit, I'd make something more easily obtainable to do that. https://www.autoparts2020.com/deka/commercial-battery-dek-93eh This is a group 3 battery

47 Clipper canvas radiator covers and brush guards?

Digging through the trunk of this recently acquired 47 Clipper Deluxe Touring Sedan that may or may not have been a military buy back. OD green on most surfaces, grey on firewall and some hidden areas.
I have no idea if this bumper hitch is Packard or aftermarket, but the military would not have used this type. Canvas pieces with spring clips that seem to fit grill and front whiskers under parking lights. The front bumper thingy looks like some sort of grill protector, but the rear bumper thingy makes no sense to me. Packard accessory? Aftermarket? Chrome plated and heavy steel, so I don't think it is military or bubba. Supposed to be a set of fender skirts in that trunk somewhere. Attach file: (26.22 KB)

I should have taken some measurements or put my CAT 6v battery in there as it is a Group 2 battery. A group 2 is what is used in my 1942 GPW WWII jeep and I know they are not a currently popular group size.
I am sure the Packard crowd is familiar with the Optima battery inside the vintage Willard case for the purists. I take the CAT battery, remove all the stickers, paint the three battery fill tops red and it is a top post battery and it passes the 10 ft test. For my jeep, I cut out the Willard logo on balsa wood and epoxy glued it in place along with some home made terminal straps on top. Again, passes the 10 ft test.

47 Clipper Battery 6v size?

Very early in the research process of my 47 Deluxe Clipper restoration. Take the hood off and notice the battery tray is very long, but narrow. Very similar to the size of 6v battery used in some WWII vehicles. My research into that endeavor could not find a battery of that size.
So, what do we do to put a modern battery in this size tray? Remake the tray? Strap a modern 6v vintage looking battery in place? I've had good luck with CAT batteries. 6v correct group size and 8 year warranty. Not interested in the Optima battery in a vintage battery case at this time. What do you do with your?

Haven't picked it up yet, but acquiring a 1947 Packard Clipper with the intention of creating a 1942 Clipper Staff Car assigned to Ike at SHAEF HQ in England. Just getting a head start on the project blog. Serial numbers and other identifiers will be first on the list. But here it is in MI waiting to be picked up.

Recommend Pictorial Book Packard Clipper

Acquiring a 47 Deluxe Clipper Eight Touring Sedan that we will resorcreate as Ike's staff car in WWII. The car is pretty rough and bare, not a lot to start with as reference. Can forum members recommend any pictorial or coffee table type books that would show pictures of the models and features of the WWII ear Packards.
We are planning on visiting the Packard Museum in Dayton, OH and will take a million photos, but if there was something to look at to get ideas on interior options, accessories, flooring, headlining, door and window hardware, etc., it would be nice reading in the car. And, wanting to save as money for the restoration, I'd rather not pay museum gift shop prices. Thanks in advance. And, if anyone is in the Atlanta area or has a contact for the Peach State Packard group, if it is still active, I'd like to hook up with them. emails and phone calls to the listed contact have gone unanswered up to now.

The PO has a 41 grill that is "pretty rough", but as it will get painted OD green and not chromed, if it will fit the existing space, we will consider using it and saving the original grill. I think we will leave the interior differences alone. Again, if we can make some changes that do not drastically alter the sheet metal, and it makes sense financially, we'll give it a shot.
Looking forward to having the actual car in our stable in mid October. Right now, dealing with photos and on site third party inspection. But excited.
