Re: Painting Bumpers

Thanks for sharing your experience. I assume that the bumper inlay and guards on the '37 120C 4 dr. convertibles that came from the factory were painted black/red, I was surprised to see photos of some '37 120C's that were not painted. Were they painted a gloss black, etc. or satin?

I know from previous experience that it is difficult to get paint to stick to a chrome surface. The process I plan to follow is:
1.sand surface (220/320/400)
2.degrease/clean
3.tape
4.Prime with self-etching primer.
5.Paint with epoxy paint.
6.immediately/carefully remove tape.

I will soon attempt to have paint adhere to the newly chromed bumpers on my '37 120. I would really appreciate any suggestions as how best to prep the surface, and primer and paint to use. Thanks

Should the wheel rims be painted the same color as the car (Packard Blue) or did they all come with the same color (maroon) regardless of body color?
Thanks

See photos - I have flat embedded clip on the lower cylinder but do not see how it could hold the upper lock cylinder in place.

'37 120 Door Lock

I am in the process of reassembling my door handles/escutcheon plates, springs, etc, after re-chroming the handles and I am running into a problem reassembling the driver side door lock. All is in place except the lock cylinder will not stay in the fixed slotted cylindrical housing. I followed James Bushnell's writeup on removal but not much help in reassembly. The inside of the lower fixed slotted cylinder had to be sanded to remove deposited copper before the movable cylinder would even fit. Could I have sanded too much? also I do not have a flat spring described in James writeup.

David - in '37 Packard offered two heaters as accessories the DE LUX model hot water heater and the Std. hot water heater. You have the more costly model - mine is obviously not Packard OEM - see attached.
Thanks for your response.

The heater in my '37 120 C sedan convertible is a STD. EA Model L-12. Does anyone know what car/model this heater was made for? I do not believe it is Packard, is it a generic aftermarket model?

Re: Listing the types of light bulbs used in my 1934 Packard 1100

I plan to replace lights in my '37 120C with LED bulbs. My Operating and maintenance Data calls for 1.5 candlepower, Mazda 55 bulbs for the reading, parking, and fender lights and .8 candlepower, Mazda 51 bulbs for gauge, clock, signal, and radio lights and 3 candle power, Mazada 63 bulbs for rear tail lights. I was able to find LED replacements for the Mazda bulbs on LEDLIGHT.com: Product code 23694 for Mazda 51, Product code 69548 for Mazda 55, and Product code for Mazda 63. I have no idea the quality of the light since I am in the process of installing a new wiring harness but want to do all I can to reduce load on 6 volt battery and to get bright lights. The only problem is that they are made in China.
