The picture of the skyline is Chicago. The building that is cut off on the left is the Palmer house/hotel. That picture would have been taken just east of Columbs Dr, faceing westward. It looks like all of the cars were stopped to watch, maybe?

What gloss finish on the frame of a 22nd series, and under coating...

Hi all,
I have a 22nd series. I have the rebuilt engine ready to be installed. But before that, am an down to the frame rails (in the engine compartment). What gloss level is the frame supposed to be? ...satin, semi-gloss, or gloss? I am not going to have the car judged, but I would like to be in the "accepted" arena. Also, the car was undercoated. The undercoating has held up, so I didn't want to strip that, but I did want to "freshen it up". Has anyone done something like that? If so, what did you use? I was going to call Eastwood this week to see if they suggest their undercoating could bond to existing undercoating. Thanks, Mark

I have a newly rebuilt engine. So since the block and radiator are bone dry, I plan on going with the Evans Waterless Coolant. I like the benefits that they cover; higher boiling point, better heat transfer, no risk of corrosion.

Well, after trying to determine which color it should be (grey or green) I went with grey.
But I'm assuming that the response also meant that the heat shield should be painted. ...back to work. Thanks, Mark

Hi,
For a 22nd series Super--I'm busy scrubbing, sandblasting and painting parts. I'm using the few photos that I have to determine what color to paint what. So my first hangup is the fuel pump heat sheild... I have a b&w photo that shows it either grey or natural... Does anyone know if it should be natural? Thanks, Mark

Black engine paint for pulley brackets etc...

Hi all,
(1949 22nd)I finally finished my fuel pump and water pump rebuild. So now I am moving to paint everything that the son has been sandblasting. (most of which is black) I had bought a quart of Eastwood's underhood. but it looks like this is a satin (5%-10%) gloss. (They do offer a single stage underhood that is a 10%-20%, but I don't know how "glossy" that is.. Everything black that I have seen on the 22nd-23rd looks to be a semi-gloss. So for anyone that has done an engine detail, what typ/brand of black did you use? I was all set to paint this coming weekend, but now it looks to be on hold til I determine what to use. Thanks! Mark

So I was rumaging around the basement to see what I had. I don't throw much out. ...then I realized that I had some pre-filters from an air filter. So I rolled some up and pushed it in. I'm still thinking about it tho. ...as I just realized that I need to soak the leather vacuum diaphragm seal over-night in oil to get it over the hook in the diaphragm shaft.
![]() I also included one last picture of some "grit" that I found in the old filter and the vacuum chamber. It sure looks like the glass bead that I sand blast with! ...but as I have never had the car in the garage with the cabinet, I know that it didn't come from me.
