Hi Don,
I don't know if lead additive in the gas would help or not, but for what it's worth I use ethanol free hi-test. I know how frustrating this problem can be. Sounds like you've gone through the major areas, so keep playing with the timing like OD and customclipper55 suggested, and check the vacuum (as packardguy53 found). Hang in there - you will find it!

If you're speaking of this bolt - I believe you're incorrect. The bracket behind the bolt is square and I believe a round rubber washer goes between the bracket and cowl.

Don,
I'm not sure of the temperature requirement so I can't answer your question on that, but I did have the same problem with my '50 (288 engine). After replacing the water pump with a rebuilt one, having the radiator checked and cleaned, setting the timing "by the book" (6 degrees past TDC), checked for good-strong firing from the distributor, pulled and cleaned the distribution tube and cavity, removed the freeze plugs and pressure washed the inside the cooling jacket best I could, replaced the timing chain (while I was there), none of which resolved the problem completely. It still ran hot but didn't boil over. Temp gage would get up to "H" and stay there, and only slightly come down with higher RPMs. The remedy I finally discovered was to set the timing "by ear" - which ended up (with my engine) 12 degrees. Seems strange, but it starts fine and runs and idles at normal temp. - Good luck!

I believe this strip (14" x 1/2" x 1/16" with 3 slots) came from the glove box or dash area but couldn't find a fit when reassembling. What can it be?

So true. One missed "tag&bag" and picture can consume a lot of time searching and head scratching.
Thanks Ross! Great news - The tail light pods are being chromed now. I suppose I would have eventually solved the mystery but I'm glad to know sooner than later. (stay tuned. I've got one more "un-baged/marked" part to get a picture of and post tonight)

Trivia cause I don't know:
Been on this 2362 project now for 3 years and 32 days and getting a little concerned about where these parts belong. Hopefully they belong with the fenders or grills cause that's about all that's left to do. (don't know why in the world I didn't bag & mark these like I did 99.9% of everything else) ![]() Thanks in advance for the answer!!

Here's the finished floor mat template.
Hopefully it's very close to the original design but if anyone sees anyone sees any discrepancy shout it out cause it's going to the supplier this week. Thanks for your input and help Ross!!

Thanks Ross - Very Helpful!!
Parts list calls for (9) #6x1 screws with ferrules for all 23rd (with rubber mat or carpet in front). I believe one of them is showing in your first picture near the corner of the rubber mat. Another must be in the opposite corner, so where are the general locations of the other 7? Thanks again for all the info! I believe I can now make an accurate rubber mat template for the restoration / remanufacturer supplier of door sills and running boards (and hopefully rubber mats) I'm dealing with.

Great pictures and details - Thanks!
I assume carpet listed in the parts manual (#254474 for my trim code 69 and #258134 for your trim code 79) includes separate pieces for the foot rest, back floorboard and the sides by the door sills. Both trim codes have the same front mat so the dimensions of the rear carpet should be the same - maybe one is cut pile and the other hogs hair like you mentioned - just guessing. Is the carpet beside the door sills one piece going under the seat or is it 2 separate small pieces? If it's 2 small pieces, what's under the front seat? For the front mat, the majority of the bottom looks like carpet attached to the rubber, or is it different texture in the rubber? Also, can you send a close-up picture of the holes in the mat for the brake and gas peddles? Thanks again! - Sam
